SAK toothpick use
on: January 13, 2010, 03:17:56 AM
I read this on blade forums.........

A little known fact is the SAK toothpick was initially designed for picking locks (it was actually called the skeleton key for the first 3 or 4 years in their catalog). After a few years, they figured they could expand their market share by calling it a toothpick. True story.

Is this true?

Interesting...were the "toothpicks" originally made of metal?  Was there a tension wrench instead of tweezers on the other scale?

Doubt it, why include a tool nobody knows how to use?

...only if the lock is not yours.

I picked a co-worker drawer closed with keys inside, and he actually thanked me :/

Yeah, I remember picking several of my friends lockers after they forgot their keys in secondary school.  ::)

I honestly don't see how that little bit of plastic could be used as a lockpick though...  and it definitely doesn't look designed for that purpose.

LOL :D No, during the service in the army we just used a coat hanger to force locks. But I could never do it without owner's permission... I'd blush every time I look at the lock.

maybe the hooked one...

Interesting, here's somebody using a SAK to pick a padlock. I don't have a padlock to try it, so any thoughts on if this fake or not?

You need the right LOCK, to pick it with the awl :/

Maybe not fake, just an already abused lock.

Not fake, just a really old lock that relies on one or two pins, would be impossible with a modern lock (if it fits in the first place... wouldn't).
Got those frog legs.
