Maybe A swiss tool?
on: January 16, 2010, 01:07:27 AM
OK I am actually thinking of a Swiss tool. I actually never handled one or owned one, but feel I need to try it. But now the question is..

I want a sport ratchet also, but it is only sold with the spirit. Can I just order one seperatly, and will it fit into the sheath with it?

I don't know if he's got stock at the moment but Tim sells the ratchet separate.  Not seen him list it separate on the store though so you'd need to PM him.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Just remember, there's a BIG difference between the SwissTool Ratchet and the Sport Ratchet.

I'm not trying to split hairs, but if you ask for the wrong one you might be disappointed!

Is there a comparison photo anywhere of them?

The pic above is the ratchet found with some SwissTool models.  This is the Sport Ratchet:

It's a discontinued oddity that is so ugly it appeals to collectors and is more or less worthless as a user!

:D

Good question, I know there is the pouch that will take the Swiss Tool and the bits and the bit wrench (its catalogue number is 4.0833.L) but I've no idea if it'd be able to fit the ratchet in  :-\

Mmhmm, the wrench fits onto the bit holder almost the same as the ratchet does... the extension bit would likewise fit, like Grant says, in place of the corkscrew and minidriver slot on the sheath. :)

If you order a ratchet from Tim don't forget to order the little extension bar at the same time . I forgot and really could do with one  ::)

The extension is a must, holds the bits better that the ratchet and gives longer reach

Buy the swisstool of choice, THEN buy a pouch with ratchet kit. The ratchet kit "should" include the extension bar with it. That's what I did, albiet with the ¼" driver wrench, not the ratchet set. When I save the monies up I will but the spirit (seeing as how I don't have one) and ratchet all together.

Just checked eBay USA, and they have them for around 40 bucks...you may want to just but the swissspirit and ratchet complete at roughly double that, you would at least have a spare tool and won't hurt the wallet psychologically as bad (in my head anyways).
For those looking for the abortion fondly known as the sportsratchet, there are a few currently listed as well.
If the sportsratchet only had a metal driver instead of a plastic one I wouldn't have been so tremendously underwhelmed...or disappointed.

I traded a Swisstool with a big pouch with a sort of front compartment to Mike LOTS last year. He could check for you, but I remember it being pretty big.

I took a pic when I was getting rid of it - I'll dig it out....

Here we are:

I can't remember for sure, but Mike could check :)

IIRC it does fit the bits and ratchet+extension but you lose the slot for the corkscrew attachment as that's where the ratchet extension goes.
