Victorinox Shield copied? Jin Teng-China?
on: January 17, 2010, 05:37:05 AM
Not sure if anyone else here has seen any of these before but the logo looks suspiciously very similar to the Victorinox shield. I spotted a few photos on the net with the same logo so it must be a larger company.

Found this one in an eBay auction but a Google search shows many more from various sources.

I suppose it is appropriate that the shape of the shield is upside down?

is that a paint coating on the knife in the OP, or is it a 'grain' of the metal (that would be cool)?

No the shield looks much the same as the Victorinox shield does just with out the cross centerpiece. It is clearly a rip-off design from the original Vic shield but not really sure if it violates any laws since it has the centerpiece changed.

The logo looks alot like this one Paul posted Here.  :think:
Sorry but I do not see a similarity in this design posted in the link you mention to the one I posted. The circle with a 4 pointed star? in it looks nothing like the Victorinox shield which has 6 distinct "points" in its design.

This is just an observation about what I believe to be an almost infringement of a copyrighted logo and I wondered if anyone else had seen this knife or knife makers logo. Here are a few other examples of this;

I was merely referring to the 'circle with the star', to maybe give a pointer towards a manufacturer, if anyone has seen that logo before.. :)

OK, I see what you are talking about. The middle part having the circle with star design is similar, however the shield outline is what I am referring to.

While I have little doubt that this is intended as a "tribute" ;) to Victorinox, I will also say that Victorinox hardly invented that shield shape either.  It's very much in the style of 18th and 19th century heraldry so it could be argued that Victorinox were taking on some "airs and graces" by designing themselves a coat-of-arms. :)

Yeah whilst it was almost certainly the intention to make that logo resemble Vic's. the shield shape has been around for like 1000 years, so it's probably hard to copyright something like that.

I think Allan might be right too, that sort of star logo crops up all over the place on Chinese tools, it could almost be the cas ethat they decided to make it look a bit more like the Vic logo - who knows?
I used to come here a lot.
