Deleting SOLD items
on: January 17, 2010, 11:44:05 PM
Any chance we could cleanup the For Sale forums to delete the items that are sold. I keep checking in there and get excited only to read a page long thread and find out the item is gone. :(

Some of the postings are updated to show the sold status in the title or first post, but many are not. And even those that are updated, still take up space in the topic list.

Personally I disagree with deleting sold items as an old for sale ad can give other members an idea of what something is worth and what they should sell their items for.

If people clearly label their stuff as SOLD then there shouldn't be too many problems.

I agree with Ben that seeing what items went for (i.e. leaving the price / deal there to be seen) is a good idea and very helpful when deciding how to price an item.

However, "SOLD / TRADED" in the subject line would be very, very useful indeed. There's nothing more irritating than reading through 4 pages of thread derailments to find that something you were interested in was actually sold two weeks previously!

I do generally like the way the trade forums work here compared to others, not too formal or stuffy, but being able to see what's sold without reading every post would be a great improvement for me :tu:

Some sort of setting where the OP could mark their thread as being finished (or in this case sold) knocking it out of the current for sale items could prove to be quite handy (with maybe a 1 month cut off for other items or something).  Not sure if that's even possible though.

Tbh - even just getting a mod to pull their finger out and edit SOLD into the subject more consistently would help ;)

What about a sub-forum for sold items. I think there is a mod that automatically moves old threads. Set that up so threads that aren't updated for more than 7 days get moved to an "archive" sub-folder and also have the option for original posters to manually move threads there.

I agree, personally I have searched for ideas on pricing several times, and find it quite annoying that some people remove the price they were asking when an item sells.

perhaps some automated system that will pm the seller say, a month after their topic was posted to remind them to post if their item sold

I think that sale items that have been sold should stay. I also think they should not be editable, ever. Any changes should be an additional post. That way, if there are ever any problems the original post along with the additions are still there.
