You know I hadn't thought about it much, but here in Scotland we do use the term "old geezer" as well.  It's a very mild, and often friendly, insult about age but doesn't have the "cranky" connotation to it.  

The "crafty" meaning feels a bit more southern to me (in my head it's got to be done in a cockney accent).

Very true, but I can't think that someone here would just refer to another as a "geezer".*  But you do sometimes hear "old geezer".  















*Not unless they've been watching to many Danny Dyer films.
