Are you kidding me?  I'm already pricing AR15's... :D

I can just hear my wife: "Let me see if I got this straight. You're buying another gun, so you can buy another multitool?"

 :twak:

No honey, I already bought the tool when you weren't looking, now I need to spend $1200 on the gun so I didn't waste the $150 I spent on the tool.  Sheesh...  ::)

Special Forces, if they see fit, will purchase these tools.  My brother, who is in the Army, just got back from Israel, and was issued a pretty tough Gerber B.O. multitool, that I have never seen on any forum.  Let's also keep in mind that the military gets contracts and buys these in bulk, lessening the price.

Pictures please? :D

Ok, now I'm curious about the plastic parts.  Can you say anything about the quality of the plastic?  Are the side plastic inserts necessary to keep the bits in the bit channels in place (looks like they make up one wall)?  Also any "nadir view" pics of the third bit holder while the tool is closed?  The formed plastic inserts that frame the AR specific tool look like they could be removed revealing tool bays in which other purpose built inserts could be added.

Ok, now I'm curious about the plastic parts.  Can you say anything about the quality of the plastic?

The plastic seemed to be a high impact grade. Two of the plastic pieces were simply "nests" for the folding pin punch and bronze scraper. The third piece was an optional holder for flat bits.

Speaking of which, this optional holder can either be used to store the third (short bit) if you wish to keep the bit driver empty to provide quick access to the strap cutter, or it can hold an extra "long" flat bit. Which makes us assume that additional "long" flat bits (besides the two that are included with the tool) will be available as accessories.

...Are the side plastic inserts necessary to keep the bits in the bit channels in place (looks like they make up one wall)?

Yes. The metal only folds around three sides of the bit channel. The plastic inserts make up the fourth side.

Also any "nadir view" pics of the third bit holder while the tool is closed?

Is this the angle you are asking for Dizos?

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Great News!  You can preorder the Leatherman MUT Today!  They have them at

They also have a video on youtube

Looks like they will ship in September and they will not actually charge your credit card until it is shipped.

I`m pretty sure that when you post links to your e-commerce site on a forum, you should at least contact the administrators and ask them if it`s ok.  There`s a rather nasty name for folks that do that.

If you`d like to discuss legitimate options for promoting your site, please feel free to contact me at grant.lamontagne@gmail.com or PM me here on this forum.

September? I'm not going to preorder yet. As cool as the MUT looks, I'm sure there would be some more civilian models in the near future based on the MUT frame with implements that make more sence to me. For this kind of money, I want it to be perfect for the tasks I have at hand which fortunaly does not involve guns  ;)

Is this tool designed specifically for the M4/AR?  To be honest the so called weapons tools don't seem to be any kind of engineering break though.  The "Cleaning Rod/Brush Adapter" sounds like it just turns the tool into a cleaning rod handle.  You will still need a cleaning rod(s).  The "Replaceable Firearms Disassembly Punch" sounds like a small metal rod used to push out the Take Down Pin and the Receiver Pivot Pin.  We used to use either the tip of a round or a section of a cleaning rod.  And I don't know what to think about the "Replaceable Bronze Carbon Scraper".  Bore burshes are brass and I would think a lot more effect removing carbon out of the bore.  That said, the tool is "cool" looking and I will probably get one.  I just think the whole connection to weapons maintenance is a bit overblown.

I'm glad to see Leatherman introducing the MUT, as it will help to legitimize the concept of the weapon-specific multitool.

May the best tool win!
