Res-q-me????
on: February 06, 2010, 05:45:58 PM
I read this somewhere and thought I'd share as it could save lives  :salute:
[qoute]
SAFETY NOTE

This tool will not break windscreens or laminated glass, some side windows are laminated. :ahhh :ahhh

[end quote]

Hmm not something you can test out when the brown stuff hits the fan  :think:

So guys what would we need to get through laminated glass? a Auto centre punch maybe?

Thoughts please  :tu: I think what ever I get I'm testing it out first  ;)

I have one, I tested it on various types of windscreens and it worked perfectly; also the blade is super sharp, cuts through seatbelts with no trouble.
Small warning-first time I tried to break windscreen I pressed the Res-q-me too hard onto the glass and my hand just went down through the hole in the windscreen-result,dozen small cuts.
After that I was careful, and it worked perfectly-I'm very satisfied with it, I keep one in my car

They tend to go cheaply enough already:

I think this video shows the difference between laminate (windscreen) and standard (drivers door) glass.  maybe one of our LEO's or similar could confirm though.

Plus, Marc ships to the UK, and supports this forum... so dealing with him is good for this place too!  :D

Laminated glass will not shatter . Its two sheets of glass with a clear plastic sheet between them so a window punch would not be any good on them .

   I don't know how many or what model cars have laminated side windows here in the UK , all the vehicles i've ever owned ( old ) have had toughened glass side and rear .

Until it arrives I'm told that an auto centre punch will work (on the side windows)

My problem would be all my tools are in the back  :think:
Everything’s adjustable

The res-q-me is best kept near to you whilst driving anywhere else! it may as well be left at home  ::) :D

Yes it will work on side windows , if they are made of toughened glass i.e they smash into thousands of tiny peices when broken and often make a lovely pop sound  >:D  Toughened glass is made from normal glass (float ) but heated to around 700c then cooled quickly .

If some of the newer vehicles start putting laminated glass in side windows all the res-q-me will do is crack it .

I have one of these in the central console in each of our cars.

As has been said, for the price it's more a question of why you wouldn't get one/some.

I used to come here a lot.

Hi, first post.

I've been lurking for a fascinating week now, and feel I have something to contribute.

I was in a 'minor' roll-over accident, and all my handy tools were scattered about the truck.  My auto center punch (intended for just such a time) was nowhere to be found.  Fortunately for me, the side window shattered during the activity, and I climbed out... dazed & confused.   javascript:void(0);

All that to say, I now have the replacement punch and a SuperKnife duct taped to the side of my seat.  Out of sight, but accessable while belted in.  Both of those could be replaced w/a Res Q Me, but recommend you tether it!     javascript:void(0);
There are just 10 types of people in the world:  those who understand binary number systems, and those who don't

Welcome, BlueDot! Thanks for the account, never hurts to be ready.

I don't have a car, but I've hung a res-q-me behind my sister's rear-view mirror and told her how to use it. I reckon it'll be just a wee bit more useful than furry dice when something happens.

I've been upside down in a car before, and let me tell you, it's an experience like no other.  You are lucky to still be here with us BlueDot!

I agree, you need to find a way to keep tools secure and handy as you never know where they may end up if you don't.  This is also a good reason to have duplicates and backups all over the place.  And, at the price of many tools like the Res-Q-Me and some other rescue tools, you aren't likely to break the bank getting a few spares either!
