Was the Supertool 300 a worthy replacement?
on: April 18, 2010, 08:22:15 PM
Now that the 300 has been out a while I'm curious, is it superior to the Core and a worthy replacement?  Anything that the new 300 is lacking in comparison?
I'm back!!

Yes and No - in that order :)

It's a better thought out tool that preserves everything I like about the Core. It's an improvement.
I used to come here a lot.

I like the st pliers better, other than that I see no major improvments. The zytel liners dont seem to be a problem to me. I havet used my core very much but I have beat the heck out of a blast and its held up fine.

The way they've organised the clumping is better, and the cut-outs to aid opening the blades with gloves on. And of course the pliers :)

The cutouts are a MAJOR big deal! :salute: My gigantic brother-in-laws have these ridiculously large fingers, and no fingernails. :P The only multitool they had previously been able to use was a Core. (they absolutely cannot open the blades on a SwissTool) In order to open the knife blade on the Core, they have to wedge a pinky finger in between the outer 'long' blades and fish them out. Now with the Super Tool 300, they can simply pinch the blade between thumb and forefinger and open it up. :tu:
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I don't like the new smart clumping system on the ST300 or the new pliers. But I do like the cutouts. All in all I would rather carry a Core.

the only place i can see it coming from was the zytel, both theses tools are great, i prefer the ST300 classic look, but i like the chunky feel of the core, the cutouts dont bother me as i dont wear gloves but can see the use, the pliers's work great as do the core's, but the replaceable cutters a bonus if you use them a lot,i like clumping, and the tools are the same on both MT's, i still remember when the core came through my mail box, i thought it wiped out my floor boards  :o  both very tough tools in there own rights,

I prefer the Core.  I have had a few ST300s and everytime I try and open the blades up I nearly cut my self, because they are so stiff.

i have cut myself two times on the st. Not careful and my finger was over hanging in the cutout.

ive had no problems with taking blades out yet, they are a little stiffer but i like the way they lock back in place, and same as the core they both have very nice drivers,

Was a HUGE Leatherman fan (with the ST) then the 200 came out and I lost interest.

Starting carrying the Swiss Tool for several years and the only thing that replaced it was the Spirit.

Now since I got the ST300 I retired the Swiss Tool (actually traded it off and back again) and got rid of the Spirit.

YES I like the ST300,   yesterday I decided to go a little lighter so I carried the Kick when I was using it I missed the heft and feel of the 300.

Recap:  I retired a tool I carried for years, got rid of a Spirit and now carry a ST300. That is about it. :multi:

The ST300 handles also taper near the plier head, so you can reach in tighter spaces than the Core.
