Leatherman Style
on: January 22, 2010, 08:36:35 AM
Some pics of the Style:

As you can see, it'll be available in 4 colors- blue, black pink and red, although the actual tints of these colors may not be 100% right- there was some mention of the shades on the prototypes above being slightly off what was planned.

The Style is a great little tool, similar to the Victorinox Classic in function, although it does give up the toothpick.  I didn't take a picture of it (I forgot  :-X) but it also has Squirt style tweezers.

Oh absolutely no doubt they are going after the small SAK market, my worry for them is that I don't think they will be priced like a SAK.  If I'm wrong then I'll be very happy. :)

What are the scissors like Boss?  I'm assuming that these are the same scissors that'll be seen on the one I'm really after, the PS4.

Scissors are all the same on the Style, PS4, and ES4. They seem to function fine on paper, with clean cuts and a good return spring.

What are the scales made of?  They look like rough plastic.  I would like to see one made from the same plain stainless steel material as the Micra is made of.  It looks like a nice minimalist keychain tool though.  I will be buying on in black when they come out.

Here are the dimensions.  I got them from a Leatherman catalog yesterday.  Actually a clerk at a tool store I went to showed me a catalog and they had all four of the new keychain tools listed, colors and dimensions.

Style:  Closed Length:  2.34", Blade Length:  1.6", Weight:  .81oz

It's quite nice looking, but doesn't have anything over a classic really... I'd be more tempted by a silver coloured one too.

Looks like they broke off a Squirt handle and are selling it as a new tool.  Maybe that's how they can improve warranty turnaround time.

People have been making that Micra mod for a couple years now.  The one that is just one handle of a Micra.  Leatherman must have noticed it, took the idea and ran with it a little.

Doesnt look like a SAK to me.

I completely agree - looks nothing like a SAK

Whilst I'll inevitably get one (or some) of these, I can't see it making it into my EDC as it appears to be half a Micra or Squirt. I think I'll stick with the whole thing in all probability, or even more likely the Style CS. We shall see.

That poink is revolting btw - but it may not be the final shade or finish I guess. I wonder if it will resemble the Pink Squirts more by the time it gets to market - that's marginally less revolting!
I used to come here a lot.

Have to agree with you on that.  I suspect because it's a keychain tool they are trying to market it more to women.    I would like to see them make it in the same finish as the Micra.  It's a minimalist tool to begin with, why not keep the finish SS.

Hey, the pink Squirts are actually rather cute.  :twak:  Still, I think the colors for new new Ps4, Es4, and Style look downright horrid... give me my easily scratched alox. :/

We were told that the production color shades would differ somewhat from the prototypes available at Shot. The pink was specifically mentioned as one shade that would see a big change.
