Wear in joints
on: January 30, 2010, 06:34:26 PM
I was cleaning up my Soldier because I noticed there was a little rough part of the action. It's still very new and hasn't seen any sort of grit or grime, but I figured it could be old, congealed lubricant. I noticed in the light a little line running vertically with the knife blade at the joint of the main blade. I used an Explorer magnifying glass and saw that there were a few scratches on the rounded portion of the knife's action. I checked and older Soldier and found considerably more, and a never-carried one and found a bit less. Is this something that's likely to get much worse, or is it just the tool breaking in? I don't notice it on cellidor models but the blade layers are also harder to take a look at. I just don't want the tool to develop a gritty opening. Anyone with some alox willing to take a look?  :D

I wouldn't worry about it at all . The Vic Alox ( and Wenger Si ) are some of the best built production knives you can get . Problems with them are very rare . Sounds like its just a breaking in proccess to me . If they get gritty to open or close or start to loose their snap then wash them in soapy water and scrub with a tooth brush , open and close the blades and tools several times under water , rinse then dry well . Don't forget to add a little oil to the joints .

That sounds entirely normal and shouldn't cause you any problems.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.
