25 years, because if it breaks in that time, you can get a replacement under warranty.

(are the actually any leatherman multi's over 25 years old?)

This is along the same lines of 'how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie-pop' isn't it?  :rofl:

so, that would make the oldest one 27 years old?  and out of warranty.  In practice what would they do if someone sent in an 83 PST for repair though?

The first Minitools will be 25 next year too :)

Then we have a bit of a wait (2019) before the first Supertools outlive their warranty. It's easy to forget just how young a company Leatherman is when you compare to say Victorinox and Wenger :)

I used to come here a lot.

How long is a piece of string?!  :think:

I think they are of a quality which doesn't wear out easily, but then if you are really tough on your tools I'm sure you could do it!

I'd say; a very long time.  ;)

There are two second-hand Old Waves in my collection that show a ton of wear. Comparing them to my personally used EDC tools I would estimate at least 4-6 years of fairly regular use has been experienced by those Waves. The only issue present on the tools that cannot be fixed with regular maintenance is the loose/wobbly plier/handle pivots. Everything else can be brought up to par by a little sharpening or cleaning. The plier/handle issue doesn't affect function at all and actually looks somewhat fixable with some washers. I would wager they'd be good for at least a decade more.

Just a theory.  If people , like us, use them they'll probably outlast the human race! :think:
"Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall;
 Some run from breaks of ice, and answer none:
 And some condemned for a fault alone." -William Shakespeare, King Lear (1608), Act IV, scene 6, line 169

I am thinking that it would take 26 years or so to wear a leatherman out. That's a year past their warranty and they are no longer responsible for the tool after 25 years.

i used my wave solidly for over 10 years ,for the last 2 its been used on and off, it still works well ,it could do with a tighten up a little but its nothing that bad, i snapped one of its flatheads,my fault, and as said there covered for 25 years so no problems there  :D i think it depends on the abuse they get, i look after mine even though its used,
