My other project(s) - non multitool related
on: February 04, 2010, 04:31:03 AM
Aside from the Multitasker brand, I have the opportunity to play around with other ideas that utilize my sourcing/production capabilities and my firearms industry background

1] G10 laminate grips for 1911 pistols; there are plenty of G10 grips on the market, but I have been experimenting with some different designs.

This design has a thumb groove like the Mil-Tac, but the cutout is much larger and deeper; plus we put diagonal serrations in the G10 material to give it some abrasive texture:

compare to the Mil-Tac

Also plan to offer a honeycomb pattern:

2] I have taken 1911 tritium sights and mounted them on a Picatinny carrier; this is an idea for a BUIS that is optimized for a SBR used for CQC. The sight picture basically looks the same as a 1911 when you extend your arms out. The advantages are:

* all adjustments can be done from the rear sight
* very robust, nothing to flip up
* the tritium dots are bigger than the designs based on A2 sight - the front sight post width of the A2 sight limits the size of the tritium vial; with a 1911 style front sight, we can use the biggest tritium vial available.

set up for bottom-third cowitness

the carrier needs work - it is too bulky; may use ABS or maybe CNC it out of 6061AL. and the front sight "ears" are poking out too far, you can see them from the rear sight.

but the sight picture is superFAST!  so i think the concept has a lot of potential.

the added bonus is that my brother owns Kensight/Champion GunSight, so I don't have to worry about the sight part of it  :tu:

Interesting concepts, would like to get the feel of both ideas and get a few (hundred) rounds off of each :D

here's the Mil_Tac (tried to hotlink the image before)

On the tritium sights, I'm seeing the picatinny-mounted front sight and rear sight (good idea by the way) but I'm not familiar with the flip-over sighting ring device....?
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

It's a Larue Tactical flip mount for the Aimpoint magnifier, i plan to mount the Aimpoint M2 to it, allowing me to flip it out of the way if desired

for those that arent familiar with M16/M4 sights, practically every BUIS on the market retains the peep/post setup - which is really optmised for a RIFLE, not a CQC carbine

IMO, pistol sights make more sense on a 10.5" gun like the LMT I have  8)
