Collecting Victorinox
on: February 07, 2010, 03:41:20 AM
New to this forum and I like that there is dedicated space for SAKs.
I started to collect knives, so I figured there is no collection with out at least one SAK. Now I collect only SAKs and to be more specific Victorinox only. My guidline was to collect/ search for ultimate combination that will work for me best. Thirty five models and four Vics flashligts later I think I own every possible combination I need/like/can find usefull in every situation.
Now I like to collect Vics just for collecting and I am not sure what direction I should take.
What guide you in search for your next Vic purchase? Is it just becouse you don't own that one is reason enough, or do you have some other game plan.

Glad to see you.  I was you a year or so ago.  Then, I found a hole in the wall Victorinox store in Seoul, Korea (I am US Army stationed here.....I leave this coming summer) and BOOM!!!  Lets say 100's of knives later (I have kept around 40 of them, rest for Felinevet for distro all over the world) my collection has exploded.

What do I look for?  I stay away from 58m Classics.  Not worth my time.  I like the 91mm and lock blades, and some of the Alox knives.  If discontinued, I want those.  For example: I had no clue what the Alox First Mate was...till I posted pics and posted here.  Turns out, he had close to 30, all new, old stock.  I cleaned him out and now, 28 or so people on this forumn have one.....

Welcome to the forums...and the biggest bunch of enablers ever seen in a single cyberspace. :tu:

I think Mike just proved my point.  :D

Everyone will have a different notion of why they collect, and even what they collect.

I am sure there are people out there that focus on only one group, for example, the Alox soldiers with their dated blades, others are like me, a generalist collector.

For me, I collect anything that I like. Unfortunate for me, I seem to like every SAK out there.

Psssst. Don't tell Mike, but he is right.

Hello lwj, welcome to the forum.

My SAK buying and modding is very much like yours, I have to be able to imagine a role that the SAK fills that none of my other ones quite manage.  Of course some of these differences are quite small and often spurious but it's part of my buying process none-the-less.

Yes I own one.
Even so aloxs are not my favored ones I own five different models and Farmer is on the top.
I like the look of them, but they just don't feel good in my hand when using them and I use (pamper) all my Vics. Not at the same time, but when I try to figure out which on to carry I realize - I have nothing to carry and off shopping for new one I go.
