Thanks Z! I can definitely reccomend it, it's a great blade for slicing rope or any thick material, has pretty good edge retention to

Came home to this in the mail. Had a PM2 and loved it. Just wasn’t legal where I live, because of blade length. Hoping this will be the one for me.

Nice! !

I have the S30V version (which, otherwise is identical), and I really like it. Opens quickly, and the compression lock is easy for a southpaw to use.

This begs the question, I am beginning to wonder if mine's really S45VN and not S30V. There's nothing at all wrong with it, and I'm sure that a mismarked steel on the tang would be enough to make it "defective".  I did buy it heavily discounted late 2020 during the seconds sale.

From what I’ve read the Para 3 was made in S30V before Spyderco made the switch to S45VN. I don’t think there is a huge difference in the two steels.

Nice Para 3

S30V, S35VN, S45VN oh boy Crucible.   In the "real world" you may not notice a difference.  The formulation that traded toughness for a small decrease in edge retention in S35VN over S30V to me was no big deal.  Going to S45VN seems to be a better move in that the edge retention of S30V is retained with the same toughness and stain resistance of S35VN but......... really?

I'd still rate S30V very high.  In my salty environment I have never had an issue.  I can also say I've never had issued with edge retention for say to day usage.  My S30V is Benchmande and Spyderco.

Data points suggest S45VN is an upgrade but if you're happy with your Para in S35VN  :tu:

As with all things YMMV.

:iagree: My PM2 was S30V. I used it to open bags of ice melt in the snow and put it away wet. Never saw a spot of corrosion. I’m not really a steel snob. I’d be just as happy if I was sent a Para 3 in S30V.

I'm with you guys. S30V is just fine as is S35VN and S45VN. However, I do like CPM 20CV for some reason since I had it used daily first time in the Fools Of April Buck 110 challenge and on hikes around the Irish West Coast frequently then.
I might imagine it... but it really holds the edge well and showed no single issue with corrosion.

...yeah...my subconscious is probably just trying to justify the purchase   :D

Now since we picked up kayaking and moved down to the sea I'm curious about LC200N
