Tooligan
on: February 20, 2010, 05:17:05 AM

Tooligan isn't just a car, it's a multitool.  It has a build-in wrench on the wind scoop, a hex-bit adapter on the bottom, and 1" ruler on the front spoiler.  I thought it might be appropriate to post it here.

Wow. Actually, do the implements on the Tooligan work? Or is it more like ornate?

They claim they are functional.  I just ordered a gold one and a silver one for proper review!  :D

So much for this thread huh?  :D

Haven't had a chance to check the wrench out, but here's the hex-bit hole on the bottom:

My DeWalt adapter, which I got to worth with my LM Crunch, seems to do ok.

It looks like it fits well... but will it provide the torque..? :-/ fairly interested in how the Tooligan would fare in real- life jobs.

I would imagine that hotwheels cars are made of some sort of pewter or other low melting point alloy being die cast.  So I can't imagine that it would stand up to much use.

I just don't . . .  understand.

What size is the wrench head?   I think it's rather silly, but of course I'll get at least one ... since I will never understand it, at least owning it will let me sleep at night.

Maybe there was some serious confusion after a drunken holiday in some Chinese toy/tool/appliance/electronics factory ??

Seems silly.  What's next, a condom with a built-in LED flashlight ??

Oh wait, actually that might . . .

 :ahhh

From the above link:

Quote
The Tooligan was designed by Wayne Scott. It was his first vehicle design, as Wayne is mostly known as a Hot Wheels Graphics Designer. The Tooligan serves multiple purposes. First, it is, of course, a Hot Wheels car and it flies down the track, but it also is a multi-purpose tool. The spoiler is a 3/8 wrench and the chassis has a hole to fit a 1/4" hex, so you can put a flathead, phillips, or a bore bit right in!

If only it lived up to the promise of the sidepanels/adjustable wrenches and additional screwdrivers on top!

Cute though :)

The eBay seller never got back to me with shipping info so I gave up on this, until I just happened to be in the Hot Wheels section of Toys'R'Us today looking for toys for my nephews, and, well, my latest multitool cost me a whopping $1.39.

I was initially amazed as I'm pretty sure Hot Wheels cars were about that price a billion years ago when I was kid.  My first thought was "score one for child labor!" until I realized the body of the car is all plastic, while in my day they were almost all metal.  I imagine these new cars would be much more pleasant than the old ones when your brother throws one at your head.

It's a pretty neat little toy- and I call it a toy because, well, it's a toy!  I doubt you'd be fixing your car at the side of the road or carrying this hiking to maintain your equipment, but it appears to be actually functional- that is provided it just happens to be the right sized wrench (3/8") and provides you happen to have a bit kit handy as well.

I can't help but think that where this one might come in handy is when you are trying to fix your computer, and you are crawling under your desk and realize you have no tools to open the case, but luckily, while you are under there, you spot the car your son lost last week!

For being a non-tool type casting, the 1/4" socket on the underside of the Tooligan actually holds a 1/4" bit quite effectively.  I was somewhat surprised at how well it fits in fact.

Of course, being a toy, I doubt I would trust this on any heavy or rusted screws.

No expense was spared in putting every possible function into the Tooligan- provided everything you need to measure is less than an inch!  Note how I'm not making any comments/inferences about that one!  :P

All in all, it's a cute little tool/toy.  I wouldn't carry it as an only tool, but for a collector, it makes an interesting conversation piece!  And, for $1.39, it's not like it'll really take up much of the budget from other tools.

So, what are you waiting for?  Where's yours?
