I don't recall ever seeing a camo Gerber Either it's a pretty rare produciton model, or someone customized it...what kind of material is the camo made out of? Is it like an adhesive tape?
Where is Bob when you need him? I think he has ever known Gerber ever produced.

I think he has ever known Gerber ever produced. The guy is totally unreliable though (Image removed from quote.)There was a Gerber 600 Pro Scout produced in camo, as well as a Diesel model. The finish on both were made using the water borne dip coating process. It leaves a heavy film on the surface which then dries. I haven't experienced any flaking with mine, but I imagine when it starts to let go it probably comes off in big flakes...?
Now...how do I get that coating off?

That's a weird one alright.I've heard that Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK/Butanone) removes pretty much every surface coating but it's very nasty stuff. Another problem may be the surface prep underneath that coating may not be the same as the other handle. If it's a rough finish you'll be in worse shape than if you just left it alone. If you want to sell it I'd recommend cleaning up the implements and trying to sell it on the forums first. That way you can set your price and if it doesn't sell you can then go the removal route. You could always take it apart and send the handles to this guy over at Bladeforums. He offers different media (like bead blasting) finishes for no charge. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=690572

Sell it on here and peeps might like the camo
Quote from: Benner on February 28, 2010, 08:52:15 PMSell it on here and peeps might like the camo Is anyone interested in buying this, as is? Maybe a trade? I'd just as soon work a deal here...be much easier!
That thing sure looks odd , even by Gerber standards .A previous owner would of combined 2 tools to come up that
If that was the case Bob it looks like the coating does not leave any evidence of it being there .Why only do one side , probably a lazy bugger
So did this oddity find a new home?
