Is SAKwiki down?
on: March 05, 2010, 07:03:24 PM
I haven't been able to get to their site for days now.  Anyone?

I've been having problems on MT.O at times too.  Some forums, I just can't get to.  Q&A being one.  I get a "server did not respond" message.

I figured it was just my Internet provider, since it's been sporadic.  Maybe not.

That is Victorinox ecomnomy series.  I think around the mid to late 80s.

The Swiss Officer's series had the inlaid crest, grooved corkscrew.  THe economy series had the painted crest, smooth corkscrew.

Ahh, thanks.  Are they worth anything?  :D

He he.

I dunno, not anything special, I am only a beginner/collector so I can't say.  My guess is probably not.

That shield is the cheaper style of Hot Stamped shield and it is an older style but they do seem to be fairly common and they are worth whatever someone pays you for it right.  :pok:

BTW--I have seen this on both nylon and cellidor scaled models. Not all of the knives with this type of shield are economy versions though.

I've got a couple of those too, one has the tent formed of 3 individual lines instead of one pointed thick one.

The main difference to note is between the 2 knives both have the same style shield but one is hot stamped and the other is inlay metal like most Victorinox knives.

Lol, I just noticed your poke...I know, I know...What can I say, but I got that thick Hawaiian coconut head.  sometimes takes longer for things to break through to my brain. :D

Worth pointing out that the older 'economy' scales don't have the toothpick and tweezers' slots.

That is a good point about economy scales. Some knives are rear tang stamped economy as well but I must admit it seems to be hit and miss with the economy tang stamp. I have seen what looks like an economy model but without that tang stamp.

Interesting I've had no problem on Friday or Today.  This sounds like some sort of backbone issue,

I hate to say it guys but I'm still not having any issues, all the Defender sites are working for me. :-\

Maybe it's because I'm nearer the server in Germany than you guys and it's getting tired going across the Atlantic?  I will admit I don't know that much about computers though. ;)

I tried again. I get the "Diagnose problem" button. Clicked on it, and it informed me....

www.sakwiki.com is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web Service (HTTP) with this computer.

Then it tells me to contact the Admin etc as it can't be fixed automatically.

Anyone else having issues today?

I can access Felinevet's web site, SOSAK, and obviously this one also.

All of them are working fine now I also thought it had something to do with FF 3.6 but then IE and my daughters PC with FF 3.5.8 gave me the same message plus my brothers PC with a different sever, so

As I understand it, it has much to do with the routing- ie many folks are being routed to the old location (where there is nothing) rather than the new server.  Most of that should eventually take care of itself as everyone's browsers update themselves.

There is another gremlin somewhere that keeps messing with things- one day one site is working, the next day it's not, then the next day it's something else.  Bear with us, as we are working on it!'

Ah that explains it then I guess. I was accessing it via a Favorites shortcut. I searched for it and found the web site up and running as normal. I gather my old link was a dead one.

I've been having problems with the Wiki and with SOSAK and Feline vet and Rotokid as well. It will be up and I go back and get the "unavailable" thing.

SAKwiki is working for me now.  I had to google it and redo my bookmark, I'm guessing because they changed servers.  On another note though, I had tried to do the same thing a few days ago with no success, so who knows?
