Actually I had another idea- I was going to use some 2-3" pipe, some short wooden dowels and a 2x4 cut at about 10 inches long.  I was going to wrap some foam around the pipe, followed by some velvet (or anything else that catches my fancy) then mount the dowels on the bottom as legs and affix the whole mess to the 2x4 as a base.  That way I can put all of my watches on it rather than having them lying all over the place.
