Stag Champ or Champion? Something looks fishy here
on: April 05, 2010, 06:50:36 PM
Not really sure what to think of this item I have seen on eBay. Maybe it is a custom made knife or has been modded. Clearly though the following seems fishy to me;
  • Stag scales with ground down polished ends
  • Extra large blade? What's up with that?
  • Magnifier glass does not seem right to me. Looks like the thickness around the edge is off.
Anyone else see this? The seller has answered a question about it and it seems to have the correct tang stamp.

I have seen other variations of this. I had one that was a Huntsman but I don't know for sure what this one is called. I believe it is legit and have a high snipe bid set on it.

Unless someone can find a catalogue reference I'll say mod on this one.  That doesn't stop it being an interesting knife of course.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I was looking at this and wondering the same thing - what exactly is going on here? The extra main blade in the wrong end of the knife is odd (I wonder what backspring that uses), the mag glass does look odd, but that might just be the pic. The file is heavily profiled and missing it's tip. My first thought was "mod" until Tim said he was after it, so I assume he knows more about it than I. Hopefully he gets it an posts better pics.

It certainly could be a mod but I would like it regardless.

I can certainly understand that.  I've a small but growing collection of other peoples modified knives.  In my case I quite like being able to put a name to a knife, knowing who made it adds to my enjoyment.  I guess this is how people get sucked into the expensive world of custom made blades  :ahhh  I think my bank balance will save me from that route though :D

I know what you mean. I almost never buy anything for me, it's always to resell for the kitties but once in awhile I find one like this that I would like. My personal collection is actually quite small since I have sold most of it (probably 150-200) off over time for the nonprofit which has left me very few. Sigh.......

Take some level of solace in the knowledge that I'm looking after a few of them very well ;)

Anybody know if the scales are those fake stag or real stag scales? I am leaning fake for one side but the other side screams real to me.
The seller states they are fake stag scales so that mystery seems to be closed.

^this.  That is a severely modded file (look at the nail nick)

I also think this is a modded tool.
Yes, the file does indeed look like it has been reprofiled perhaps from a break.

It is definitely a mod and, as has been mentioned, the file and blades have been profiled heavily. The scales are awesome but overall I'm disappointed. I have it available in my shop for what I paid for it if anyone is interested.

I do believe this knife has made a full circle and is once again for sale on eBay. Fake stag scales?(that is what was mentioned before), broken file and knife tip, heavily sharpened knife blade #2, MOD with extra blade and what else? Strange.

Thanks for attaching the pics of the knife in question. :salute: I think it would be best if we did something like it for all these ebay type listings as the linked pictures disappear after a while and there is no reference point anymore.

I saved a single photo as you can see from early in this thread. However I do know that Felinevet bought this knife first time around. Then he later had it for sale on EDC Source so my guess is it still lives there. I have seen some old EDC Source sales with photos but I did not check or search for it. Perhaps Tim knows or can help?
