Victorinox Packaging
on: April 06, 2010, 03:22:08 AM
FYI: As of April 19th. Victorinox is changing some of their product packaging. They will be eliminating their "Clamshell" Packaging and changing to "Board to Board" packaging. A plastic "Blister" will cover only the knives and will be heat attached to paperboard backing. This will use about 80% less plastic. The paperboard backing AND the plastic blister are recyclable. Current stock in full "Clamshell" packaging will continue till gone. This should also make it easier to open, unlike the current ones that require a chainsaw.

Not kidding on the chainsaw reference either.  ;)

Good to know.

I'm happy to hear that, Catman; for how Victorinox uses old bin tools, it always perplexed me why they used such wasteful packaging. :/  Interestingly enough, isn't that what they used for their older packages, too?  It's nice to see them reverting back somewhat. :)

Glad to hear.

I always thought the existing packaging was so wasteful.

Three questions.
1. Pictures please.
2. Are the sliding boxes going away?
3. What will the Dual Pro X come in?

I hate clamshell packaging. I'm a fan of Vic's boxes.

I suspect Tim means that only the clamshell packaging will be switching to the blister style, and that the boxes will still be boxes. :)

Nothing opens a slidey box faster than a finger.  :D I like the slidey boxes.

Photo is as good as I could from the information I was sent. Boxes remain. Appears from my  info that the Pro X will come in the new packaging.

Unfortunately these will be easier to steal if placed on a peg :P

The Wal Mart near me has folders/Leathermans on locked pegs, so you have to call someone over to unlock the peg and remove the blister pack.  Well someone sliced the side of the blister pack on a Surge and popped it right out leaving the empty blister pack on the locked peg...

Sweet, I can't stand clamshell packaging.  LM put their skeletool in one of the most stubborn clamshells I have ever seen, and it was a real bear to open.  Plus, there is that green reason...
