Brilliant pictures!

I've never been to the Isle of Wight - must do something about that one day. I've been round it a few times on the Portsmouth - Le Havre ferry, but never actually set foot on it.

I used to come here a lot.

Could well be. If you span the camera about 90 degrees to the right, in the distance you might see Portsmouth, which is where the majority of our fleet is based. Some bloody big boats around there!
I used to come here a lot.

They are bloody big!

Ark Royal is normally moored in Portsmouth, I've seen it there a few times, so you could be right.

Is that one of the new ones? :) I heard a few years ago that you Brits were getting two new big carriers. :)

Not sure to be honest Bob. It's some time since I was down there last.

According to Wikipedia, we've had 5 Ark Royals since 1587! The latest being around since 1981 - which would be the one I've seen a couple of times.

The size of these things is all relative though - we don't have anything the size of the US Navy carriers. The Ark Royal is used for carrying Harriers :)
I used to come here a lot.

Ahh, okay, I've found a bit on the new carriers, due to be recieved in 2016 and 2018, which will rival the U.S. carriers:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_class_aircraft_carrier

(I've never seen any carrier, old, new, big or small) :(

Ah yes - I remember hearing something about those. There's a great picture on that link actually, comparing a US Nimitz Class to HMS Illustrious - the difference is pretty big!

Don't get the impression that Illustrious is small though - it's huge:

I saw a US Carrier once in the Mediterranean - it was anchored about 1/2 mile out to sea maybe, and it was still intimidating from the shore. It's hard to really grasp how big these things are. Blummin' impressive, that's for sure.
I used to come here a lot.
