Imitation?? Victorinox AutoTools??
on: July 29, 2007, 01:47:10 AM
From the poor photos that I've seen, they look nearly identical to the Victorinox AutoTool except they have a scale on the handles.  I've seen them on Amazon and Ebay among other places.  There's no mention of Victorinox in the ads.  I can't read the stamp in the photos but the Amazon ad (which are sometimes incorrect) says its made by SmartTools.  Whats the story behind these tools?  How do they compare to the original?  Thanks in advance!

Interesting... I almost wonder if they're Victorinox old stock?  It looks too close of a copy to a 'knock off'.  Very strange.

Do you have the link to the Amazon page?

http://www.amazon.com/Auto-Multi-Tool/dp/B000K680M4/ref=sr_1_6/102-4029494-9052137

The ones on ebay had some poorly descriptive title and I'm having trouble digging them up--something like "multi-tool"  ::)

edit:
Here's a direct link to the Amazon seller's site: http://www.ajprindle.com/products/sku-12581__id-32__orderby-nw.html

Hehe, you would think if the Chinese are going to take the time to copy someone else's product, they would at least have the good judgement to copy a product that made sense to begin with! The AutoTool was ridiculous, but well made. The Chinese copies are ridiculous junk.  :P

Unless you're a collector like me who tries to get one of everything, these are best avoided.

If the digital tire gauge is as useful as the circuit tester that was found on the Rough Rider SAK clones,a few words come to mind----"useless","mammaries","boar hog".

Actually, the tire guage on both of mine still work quite well.  Looks like the ones on those clones couldn't tell a pneaumatic tire from a solid one though.

Thanks for the info!  ...it gives me an eerie feeling to see a SwissTool that's so poorly constructed (even though its a clone).   :ahhh

Here's another picture. Victorinox AutoTool in the back, knockoff in the front.

Why is it the Chinese have such difficulty making a proper Phillips screwdriver head?

Another difference, the KO has a can-opener, the AutoTool has a small flat screwdriver.

Viper, You need to change your user name to "Eagle Eye"!   Nice catch here and in the Gerber thread.
