So I found lowtech while just surfing...
I'd had just been messing with my 8 year olds modding a new Bluetooth 6900.

Just wanted him to use his hands on anything rather than a touchscreen or game controller.

Anyway.

So hated the gold. Never modded ever so crapping myself managed to get the fascia out and we cleaned it ready with some black matte paint. Lo and behold off came the gold.

I scratched the black plan figured I'd try out the silver.

Lasted a day.

Halfords camo paint.

And olive green.

Thanks.
Lots of good learning and probably not the best idea to use a brand new watch as first attempt.

I've been busy since as lowtech mentioned swapping modules....

I deny any responsibility of anybody getting near or into G-Shocks or modding thereof.

On swapping modules: I think swapping GW-6900 and GW-7900 modules is an advanced task as you need to press out the crystal to remove the faceplate / solar module - swapping modules on some older G´s is straightforward in comparison as in many cases teh faceplate is just put in between crystal and module.

If questions arise, please ask here or maybe try out watchuseek.com, they have a vivid, helpful G-Shock / Casio corner there that fgot me into G-Shocks and Modding in no time (I was just looking for info on my then new DW-5600).

Have fun and consider yourself warned!

Jeez. Cut me some slack you've created a monster so I thought I would too...

My 8 year old said he wanted a custom backlight.

Omg the tutorials and videos are a little out of date...

I had to help him with getting behind the screen...but check it out and it's a gw and he warned me that we'd need to watch out for solar panel springs !!!

Marvellous!  :tu: Looks like a great father son project.
I must confess I was slow on shipping, but I did include some sample slips of coloured film, used for stage lighting - you can use it to tint the LCD, although it is a tricky mod. You need to slip it UNDER the LCD, above the mirrored film and the lighting panel.
But maybe you want to try that mod in the future, you 2 seem to advance fast..

You are psychic!!!

That was exactly what he asked for!
Yes tricky but on the gw6900 we already disassembled PCs to get image in so easier for him!
Thank you

I suck at photography. But I got my GWM 5600 back into service.

A while ago I purchased a bezel and complete case from the blacked out, negative displayed version of my EDC watch, the GWM 5600 BC.
I always liked the subdued bezel with the dark grey lettering and the crystal print with the subdued colour scheme.
But the negative display and immensely expensive resin/metal combo bracelet were deal breakers for me.

So I combined the positive display with the case and bezel of the GWM5600BC and added a new strap, outcome is a very legible, classic G-Shock with a subdued colour scheme.

I repeat. I suck at photos. But I can mod watches.  :D

The original 8400 Mudman. For me personally 'the one and only' G-Shock Mudman.

I beg to differ!

While the DW-8400 Mudman is the first mudman, the watch you show is even rarer - It´s a DW-8500 Codename - It shares the case, bezel and strap with the Mudman, but has a module with data memory functions. The DW 8400 Mudman shares the module with the DW-6900, hidden under a different faceplate.

Thanks for showing that nice watch!

Sure, it's Codename alright...and I should know that as someone pushing this model on WUS in '09  ;)
Early morning slip of a tongue, so to speak.

Here's couple more of my DW 8500 Codenames, one original and one neg-LCD modded:

And just for you lowtech to get your juices flowing...my 8400-1 Mudman:

Cheers

And just to be clear, I was not trying to be the wise ass. Just saw what the pic was showing and thought I´d add my little G-Shock knowledge to maybe further infect some of our fellow MTOers. In ´09 I did now nothing about G-Shocks, but I seem to remember your Codenames from over on WUS.
And BTW: It´s mean of you guys showing pics of models I do not posess while I am trying to REDUCE my collection... Just saying. Now bring em on.  :D

Haha, it certainly didn't come across as nowhere close to that, no worries mate.

As for the G's shown - life's tough sometimes, isn't it  :D

Here's another one to aspire to once you reduce your collection and get some funds (mine is not for sale though, sorry)   :pok:

When it comes to Mudman's (or Mudmen) there's really only one model that still after all these years make my heart skip a beat, the one and only RBM, Real Black Mudman - DW-8400BK-1MJF

I just love this mudman, i call it the bad face, because it looks like is mad at you, our not:) i miss mine, and the main reason i sold it, it´s becuase it´s to small, i don´t have a big wrist but, that watch could be just little bigger, it will be perfect.

Nice example, this on the gw-9010BP and the MB are really rare to find, use it in good health :)
