Swisstool Vs Swisstool spirit
on: August 03, 2007, 02:24:46 AM
I just got a new Swisstool from EDC depot.  Comparing it to the swisstool spirit I will have to say that it is quite a bit larger.  I dont always think that bigger is better but I like the original swisstool over the spirit having now used both of them.  I like the fact that I can use a spearpoint blade or a serrated blade rather than using just a sheepsfoot blade that is serrated.  Not saying that I dislike sheepsfoot blades but I like spearpoints.  I do not have the swisstool spirit S model but that is on the list after I get the SOG power assist which is due to come out in november.  What do yall think about the spirit versus the original swisstool?  Personally I think that the original swisstool has the spirit beat but only because of the blade shape.  Other than that weight is not usually a factor for me and the performance of the other implements seem to have a negligible differance at best.

I like them both really.  It's like asking if you prefer your pickup truck or economy car?  The economy car is probably better most of the time, but it's useless when you back it up to the docks at Home Depot.

Of course my SwissTool gets more ride time and use simply because I like the extra weight, reminding me it's there and I didn't lose it!

Close contest, but I prefer the Spirit. The smaller size fits my hand better. Also, I don't give up hardly anything in plier size by going with the Spirit, which is a lot smaller overall.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I haven't had experience with the Spirit, but the Swisstool doesn't have a spear point blade.

You would probably have to compare the Spirit to whichever Swisstool model that replaces the serrated blade with scissors, otherwise it'd be like comparing a Leatherman Wave to an X-tract, rather than comparing, say the old and new style Waves.

I like the Spirit over that SwissTool for it's smaller size, but if I had one of these from Jsews Tools Inc. with a pocket clip it would beat out all other tools around ;D ;D

There both awesome tool,s but I like my swisstool x that little bit more, It,s just that little bit more in every sence :)

Saying that there are time's where the smaller, lighter, more discrette spirit wins out, even though i still hate the serations ::) It is a more convienient package.

but if it came to a straight choice between the to, SWISSTOOL for me ;D

That spirit dream is a really cool tool.  I would definately like to see a production model of that.  As for the pliers on both of the tools, I see no adavantage of one over the other.  I do like the Spirit but I dislike the fact that the original spirit is lacking a plain edge blade. The weight of the original swisstool is no problem for me like Def, the weight lets me know that it is there.

I have and use both.  If I could only have one I would go with the Spirit.  The Original is heavier and a bit sturdier, but for my purposes the Spirit is all that is needed.  Plus I think it is a more attractive design.   :pok:

The spirit is definately a more aesthetically pleasing tool.  I could get by with a spirit without a doubt.  I just like the 2 blade thing that the swisstool has going for it.  I would have to say that the Spirit "S" has the best features of both tools.  I just could not buy it because I already have a spirit and I wanted an original Swisstool anyway.

I have both (2 Spirits and 1 Swisstool actually), and find myself carrying the Spirit 99% of the time. Both are outstanding tools, but the lighter weight of the Spirit makes it much more EDC friendly. Like pretty much everyone else I wish that the blade on the Spirit was the usual Vic spearpoint, but it actually works pretty well for utility use. I usually pair the Spirit up with a Spyderco Delica 4 when I carry it, so I do have a decent one handed opening blade available.

The Swisstool rides in the center console of my truck. I have the plus version (non-ratchet) that I added the corkscrew/mini diver too. It's nice knowing that if I need a heavy duty tool when I am on the road, the Swisstool is there.

I prefer using the SwissTool X, but I usually carry the Spirit because it weighs less.  Both are great multitools.

I love my Spirit... I second the thoughts about the knife blade though.  I keep thinking about picking up a Spirit S, but I don't want to give up the scissors :(

Same here, I keep having to talk myself out of modding the blade in to a straight edge ::)

It just bugs me that's all, which is a shame as overall it's an awesome multi :)
