Kampfer's Sidekick, Wingman & Rev mod
on: August 18, 2015, 11:11:45 PM
Nothing major, this is a series of minor mods including combining features from both Sidekick & Wingman, hence the name “KICKMAN”.

First, let’s look at the concept art and specification.

This tool is half Sidekick and half Wingman, featuring plain edge blade and scissors.
I could install Wave's blade on it, but since Sidekick's blade is such wonderful slicer, I kept it stock.

The biggest complain I have on Sidekick or Wingman is when the tool is closed, the handles wobble a little, (it is coming from the pliers pivot). Not a big deal but it kind of bothers me a bit. To address this issue, I rearrange the location of lanyard loop, and use it to “align and lock” the handles together. Now the tool is rock solid in its closed position.

Just for the hack of it, I grinded down the pliers to be a bluntnose, but there is an added bonus; Sidekick and Wingman are known for their wire cutters not able to meet nicely for a clear cut. After the conversion, the cutters now meet perfectly.

Both flathead drivers are thinned out a bit to fit better on the screws I normally encounter.

I have no need for an additional short serrated blade, so it is now an awl.

Nice work Kampfer. :tu: how many modded tools do you have in rotation now? Is this number six? Great add to your collection

Thanks.
Could not done it without the part kit you sold me.

Nice work!  I would carry one!  I hate the part serrated blade that came with the scissors one.

Thanks, I would too.  :D

I like the tool set: knife, scissors, pliers, awl, Phillips & two sizes of flathead drivers are what I like to have for EDC.

Put it in my EDC rotation immediately  >:D

Modding MT is super fun.  :D

Most my mods are really minor, nothing too crazy, but still adds personality to the Tools.
Wish to have more skills like other modders here, I have ideas but I can't pull them off.

Do you have any issues with the can opener working properly now that it is cut down for a package opener?  Have you tried it out?

Yes, I do have problem with it, cans are too easy to open and now i have to eat more can food

Lifting caps could be an issue too but I never pop any bottles so I really don't know.

The sharpened cap lifter might puncture the top of the cap, but it really does not matter. Your lifting it off anyways so no harm no foul.

Yeah, I don't imagine there would be much call for it, just wondered if that would create an issue if you had to use it that way.  :)

That is what I was thinking might happen!  As long as it still lets the lifter part pull it up enough to undo the cap before it cuts into the cap too far!

nice work, Kampfer. you put some really nice touches on this tool! :tu:

good call on thinning down the flat drivers... I never understood why they were so thick on the Sidekick/Wingman.

After some testing on MR.K's pliers, it is NO GO!
Thanks to the pliers design those handles spread way too wide to the point the tool became unusable.
