NEW NIRK!
on: May 27, 2010, 07:27:12 PM

Just posted half an hour ago on Glenn Klecker's website:

http://www.skeletool.com/index.php

It's a new version of his NIRK knife, only this one is the result of a collaboration with Brian Tighe!

Anyone going to BLADE will be able to see these at Brian Tighe's table.

My response was that it looked like the regular NIRK, only infected by Borg nanytes.  Hard to tell which of us is the bigger dork..... :P

Hmmm... I wouldn't mind about icky stuff, what with the open construction and all. I'd be more worried about accidentally disengaging the lock; the way I see it, it's sort of a lockback, only the whole lock bar is exposed and touches the lower portion of your (probably squeezing) palm... :-\

I have one and the lock is very strong.  It won't disengage at all if you are holding it.  The button release only works if you push on the back end of it (at the back end of the lock bar).  If you squeeze even a half in forward of that it is impossible to disengage.  Seems really solid to me.  I can't wait to see the Nirk-Tighe up close.  Looks heavy tho.

Well I have four original NIRKs on the way- two black, two silver, so I plan to put them through the ringer.  I'll also give one of each away to members to abuse as they see fit!  :D

I looked up a thread over on the USN , there are two current interpretations of the original , one being by Brian Tighe , the other by Chris Reves . The harder you squeeze the handle , the stronger the lockup becomes . The Chris Reves version has somewhat less flamboyant lines .

Nope, the pic must have been updated at skeletool.com for the new pic to show up like that.

They are here, I'll take pics soon.  I've been working a lot the last few days!  In fact, I almost have a full review of it that hopefully will be seen in the trade rags soon... :D

Just noticed it has a flipper, wonder how well it'll work with the pressure from the lockback-like mechanism.

The one from Brian Tighe was a collaboration.  It was at the Blade Show.  The other designer who worked it with Brian was Glenn Klecker.  It had a flipper and it is very smooth, but Brian said the price for a NIRK-Tighe was $525...Ouch, but very cool.  Didn't see the Crhis Reeve knife.  where is that one showing?  I though CRKT and Tighe were the only ones to have NIRK locking mechanism.
