Well done Tony, looks like a decent haul to me  :tu:

I rarely find much at the ones we go to - too many people know what they've got these days I reckon!

Nice resurrection work Tony :tu:

I have a penchant for fixing up knackered electronics so despite a lack of tools and knives I normally find a few bargains :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Thanks Guys
Firstly it was bloody freezing this morning and secondly I have
never seen so much crap in one field  ::)

So I was surprised to end up with 4 useable knives

  I forgot the before picture (If you look closely you can see tiny scratches on the Taylors large blade)

I only cleaned the pruning knife and used my strop to refresh the edge a bit, its spring is still weak

I had to re-profile the 1953 BAK, it has ended up with a chisel ground edge which seems to be quite sharp, I also tried to clean up the scales with a wire brush and have ended up with a 'brushed look' which I rather like

The Taylors Eye Witness has turned out very nice considering how bad the main blade was

As you can guess I'm really happy with how they have turned out  :climber:

PS, thanks to all the people on here that have posted their mods and repairs as I wouldn't have thought to try any of these things myself

Sparky, your power of restoration are magic.  How do you do it?

Thank you but you should see some some of the things I have buggered up

How do I do it?
Well I'm sure that it could all be done by hand but I'm not that patient  :ahhh
I am lucky enough to have a good collection of power tools now thanks to carboot sales and Ebay (and a garage workshop to use)
I find one of the most useful tools is a polishing wheel with a chuck, I can use the chuck for things like a wire brush or 'flap wheel'   :salute:

How tricky are you finding it to not mess up up the blade temper?  Do you dip into water or the like when grinding/sanding?

Thanks Ben

Depending on what I am doing some jobs I use my linisher (upright belt sander) and have a cup of water next to me
I also have a 'water wheel' grinder which is what I used on most of the work on the above blades  :salute:

For the people that don't know what a UK car-boot sale looks like this is a picture of the last car boot I went to taken on the 26Sept
As you can see its held on a grass field, Others will probably run on and off through the winter held in car-parks etc

Good pic Tony :)

I suppose they aren't exactly the same elsewhere in the world. We don't have enough yard sales in this country though.

Wow, we don't get that organized around here! If someone has junk they don't want, they just pile it out front with some price tags on everything and put a YARD SALE sign out by the road. :P

Technically my usual one was on this morning but I didn't bother.  After September it shrinks a good chunk each week and last week was a bit of a joke so this morning I hid under the duvet instead :)   Now is the fallow time of the year with nothing on until the start of May :(

Its not a very good picture (you could get lynched by some stall holders for using a camera there  :D )
This Guy front left does it quite professionally and hes there every week
in other parts there's just piles of junk thrown on a blanket

Last week I turned up (at this time of year in the dark).  To wander around around a small fraction of the sellers who are there peak season and buy .... nothing.  There was not a single item worthy of my fifty pence pieces ;)   A good a sign as any that it isn't worth my petrol to go over there :)

There is one about forty minutes  away from me that runs all year but even it gets small as winter approaches and again there is the cost of petrol to factor in.  For you guys in the US reading this keep in mind that petrol/gas round me is (does quick bit of maths) $7.30 per one of your US gallons  :ahhh

$7.30?  I think the correct term is 'blimey!' :P

I hate garage sales...they're spread out all over a town, and you have to go into people's yards or driveways to look at their stuff.  I'd much rather a car boot sale, but we just plain don't do it that way.  The closest I've seen are outdoor flea markets, which do usually have the benefit of having their crap up on tables, but they just don't attract the people with a closet full of junk they just want to dump on an unsuspecting public :P
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!
