According to their website, they've moved recently to Hillsborough, Sheffield. :) Is that anywhere near you Mark?

This week it was red hot, there will be a few sunburned people waking up tomorrow morning  :D
I found all sorts of rusty things for your amusement this morning

In there is a lovely old wrench with I think 'GIRDER' No9' on the side
A 6'' pair of Footprints'

This ax looks like it has been made from something like a lump hammer
Not sure what to do with this one yet

A beat up BAK but its not as it has 'Burto and Regd' on the blade (I think that's what it says) so its some kind of trade mark

Two tiny slippys made by Imperial England
One is in very good condition and one is a little used

One well used  I.XL GEORGE WOSTENHOLM, SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND

A BECK'S bottle opener/knife well made but with lots of wear
Made in Solinger Germany

Good stuff! :cheers:

Wow, imagine how much heat was required to get that whole hammer head hot enough so it could be beaten into an ax shape :o Someone must have needed an ax really badly! :D

@Bob,
Yes you are right, I don't think my little 'forge' would get it hot enough to adjust  :think: I think I might try to sharpen it a bit for a log splitting Ax.... we will see have to see how it turns out  :tu:

@Mat,
I'm sure I need one for something   :think: and if I need one I probably need a spare one  :D

I'm sure I have a King Dick somewhere  ;)

Eeek. :-\ Grinder wounds are the worst Tony. :( Unlike a simple knife cut, where the two cut surfaces grow back together rather quickly, a grinder removes a chunk of flesh. :cry:

And right on the knuckle too! :ahhh

You won't be forgetting about that one anytime soon mate. :(

Ouch Tony. :-\  You really might want to think about having that seen too, from my non-professional opinion it looks like some steri-strips might be in order. :pok:

Don't like Imperials but the BAKesque looks like a fun project :)  What are you going to do with all these axes Tony?

I didn't see any knives worth touching today. Poor condition Sheffield makes and bottom end of the quality ladder at that :(

Got a bargain on a pile of geomag for the boys though :)  Also picked up a radio scanner for 50p.  Guy was honest about it not working but I figured it would be worth a poke.

Awwww but they are quite nice little things  :pok:

I have never seen a 'BAK' with writing on the blade before, its a bit beat up but Farman was asking about taking one apart so maybe this one  :think:

Scanner 50p, I do love car boots  :D

All the Imperial's I've come across have been pretty poor.  Similar to the quality of the tourist location Richards; at least the Richards sometimes have fun stuff printed on them :)

Don't know if I'd pull apart the BAKalike or not.  If nothing's broken on it probably not.

 :pok: So what you doing with all these axes Tony.  Stop avoiding the question :P

Update on the scanner... batteries don't work in it but external power does.  Contacts look clean  :think: I'll strip it down and get a meter in there.  Very promising though.

Sadly there wasn't a hippo on these Knives

The BAKalike,
one of the scales is cracked, the spike is a bit floppy and bent
and the blade is a bit scratched up  :think:

As to the Ax question.....
I have urges when I see rusty metal  :ahhh
Maybe this weekend cured me

I try to keep to one working hatchet at a time.  When the next one is finished I sell on the previous one.  OK, more of a guideline than a rule really... or I'd be breaking ti right now  :-[

I got home before the rain today :D

I picked up this...

(Image removed from quote.)

What did I buy?

It appears to have a stubby wick in the big cylinder surrounded by a flat wick. The brass thing fits into the little tube which is attached to the side of the big one.
I think it's a Ray-O-Lite  ::) - LINKY - I don't see the Platinum wires on yours though.

BTW - "Columbian Spirits" = Meths

Your knowledge of all things combustible is impressive if slightly worrying :P  Thank you :tu:

The wires are there, they're just really really tiny.  I didn't notice them until you mentioned them...

Your link allowed me to find a few more bits on tinternet including this video for a guy who was selling similar on ebay.  The auction is long gone but its a good video showing how they work.

Mystery solved and I can sleep once more :D

I don't have any meths in the house and I'm too tight to buy any :)

I'm happy to have solved the riddle.  I'll send it over to Serbia and let someone else play :)
