Close up of the Fleet 9145 locking pliers.  This tool is a beast.  Heavier than similar size Vise-Grips. These only need a little soak and cleanup. Proto made Fleet tools.  This was $3.

I like your Walsco utility knife. I am a retired carpet and linoleum layer that’s why I have a soft spot for utility and bloody Mary knifes. I picked up rip saw the other that I am going redo next. When I fix up an old tool I remove the rust polish it and tune and sharpen as  needed and ready for use. I do like working with old tools so yes I do use them. Plummerman I like your tool carrier.

A pair of those would go good in my mini tool carry, it’s got a pair of channel-locks, pliers and adjustable, but it would be nice to cut a few tools,  I made it up so I don’t have to lug the 5gal bucket around!
JR

You need some Knipex plier wrenches in this bag.

I went back to the estate sale at half price.  Missing in the photo is a gallon of Preston anti-freeze, an 8 pound sledge hammer and some plastic containers.

Not really.  I went back for the rest of the Plomb wrenches.  At half price they were well worth buying .  Early 40’s manufacturing.  The tool box was $2.5.   The hatchets were $3.50 together.  The sledgehammer was $5 and the antifreeze was sealed and cost me $2.50.

This is the 8 pound sledgehammer.  It is a modern one it has the eyewear warning cast into it. No other legible marks so far.  I sanded the handle and coated it in boiled linseed oil. I still need to get rid of the rust on the hammer head. Before and after photo.

Heck of a haul.  Its hard to go wrong with tools.  For the price youve paid especially.  Seems there is always someone to sell them to or set someone up with.  For a brief moment I went down the vintage hand tool hole.  What ended up happening was I got many hand tools I actually could use which was great.  I keep an eye out for inexpensive vise grips and ratchets sets.  I also like to get clamps.

Not much in that regard as the sellers here like to price everything as if they are one off special run tools  :twak:

I have had some good luck lately.  Estate sale buys tend to have better prices than Craigslist or Marketplace for me.  Craigslist tends to be just less than full retail for tools around here even for beater tools.  :-\

Estate sale buys this weekend. All except the wrench are English in origin.  The router plane has at least two owner marks and is probably over 100 years old.

Nice tools I like the jack plane and drill. I picked up some woodworking tools myself I will post some pics tomorrow. I got my dads old Stanley block plane and a newer Stanley plane in working order today. Trued the soles and sharpened the irons.

The plan and drill are marked Hobbies.  The drill is slightly bent, something I will try to adjust at a later date.

Here is a Video on the Archimedes drill. He talks a little about the drill in the middle of the video and at the end of the video he shows the drill restored and demonstrates how to use the drill.
