For starts tho, I think you can do a thinner handles on ONE side of the scissors, that would slim things up considerable.

Sorry, being a bit thick, what do you mean?

Like swissgrip style handles for the scissors..that'll slim things down.

That is an interesting suggestion, of course it would mean no tools in that handle, but then I am not sure how easy or feasible it would be to have any tools in the handles in the design as it is.

Would be great to hear any other ideas for tools incorporating both shears and pliers, one idea already put forward was combining the tools from wenger ranger series.

At this point, might as well design your own tools and locking mechanism. It's often easier than adapting other tools.

BUT that being said..this is full of moving parts and interference potential is REALLY high.

YOu could have a sliding head which slides in both directions. On one side a scissor, the other with pliers.
Should be doable if the sliding head is spring loaded.

That is an interesting take on incorporating scissors/pliers into a MT.

Would the more mechanically minded of us be able to offer their opinion on whether it would be possible?

You will only need to change one of the pliers for scissors and add Wave like handles for outside opening tools  :tu:

It's about 5" long. It's two squirts side by side. :)

Metro, I preferred your mock-up of the two squirts on top of each other, giving this same function.

I didn't like it, it never sat well in the hand. I imagine if it was sized up and less thick, the ergonomics would change.

Yes, it would require to be slimmed down considerably.

Ideally, this design would have the pliers and scissors on the same axis.

May we have a link for that please?

A very interesting, and elegant solution if it could be made to work. Perhaps the easiest way of doing this.

Now just incorporate into that compound leverage and you have a super tool.

i THINK THIS COULD BE THE PERFECT DESIGN IF IT COULD BE SHORTENED BY AN INCH OR TWO.  LOSE SOME OF THE SHORT TOOLS AND DO LONGER ONES.  I'D BUY IT

This is another really good alternative, having two of these mechanisms on opposite sides of the SAK style bar tool, opening on alternate sides. Space for tools on either side.

Hmmm, that patent reminds me of this tool, a made-in-china special. Not exactly the same, but similar. Unfortunately the increased versatility comes at the cost of strength and robustness. :-\

By the way, awesome mod there Eric! :tu: Is there more information on this squirt-fusion in another thread? (I've been away for a bit)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

It's all on the mega thread The Splash. You'll love the read. LOTS of info on the Squirt and new 3D printed steel scales.

Nice one!
I think this could be a very good multitool. Needs some cover over the sharp sides of the scissors in the handles though. Add some outside opening one handed blades/files/tools and you'd be good to go.

This is an awesome idea! What about making the attachment point lock based, so that the plier heads could be used together? Does this make sence? A lot of jobs I encounter at my work require two pliers.
