Boker subcom titan
on: June 08, 2010, 12:57:26 AM
Just got Chad Los Banos’ new Subcom Titan in the mail today, thought you guys might be interested.

Same shape as your garden variety subcoms, except this comes with titanium handles, clips, thumbstuds, and 440C blade. Not top of the line blade steel, but a Ti frame lock for around $30 what more could you ask!

It’s extremely light and thin, weight only 2oz/57g, and 7mm thick without clip (12mm with), it would fit anywhere and you won’t notice you are carrying it.

I don’t usually like small folders because my hands get tired holding the small handle, but even thou this is a 2 ½ finger knife, the wide handle and large finger choil make it feel quite nice in hand.

It also works great as a fancy money clip, if you use one of those.

How was the blade centering on yours? Mine was waaaaaay off.  Still a great knife for the $$$.

The tip is off toward the front scale, seems to me the grind is a bit off. But it's not rubbing so I'm happy with it.

440C steel?  Interesting.  Isn't the rest of the Subcom lineup in AUS-8?

Yes 440C, I believe the rest are made in taiwan while this is made in china.

Interesting.  I wonder if it's actually 8Cr13MoV, then.  Spyderco was trying to get 440c out of China for the Byrd line originally but the steel came back different then they expected.
Not that I'd mind either way, I've had good experiences with both steels.

looks good jz.  :tu:  I've been meaning to order one of these.  As they say it's on my list.  I see Caledon2
has a few up for sale.  It's time to purchase a few light weight knives for pocket carry in summer shorts.

No solid proof either way. Some say it's 9cr18mo, but others say boker import 440c. But as long as the heat treat is good there isn't much difference between the two anyway.
