Let us see your collection.
on: June 09, 2010, 01:16:49 PM
I know some people may think this is a bragging thread, and that isn’t my intention. I do like to show my collection, and enjoy looking at other people’s collections. I have always felt that a collection should be shown. It is a big part of why I like to collect. So in that light, I will show you my collection once again drawer by drawer (I have done this before, but it has been some time now), and hope that others will share theirs no matter how small or large.

So here goes…

The top of the box was originally the overflow. Now I am forced to layer things in there. So far, so good.

Next down are 3 smaller drawers containing mixed multi-tools and SAKs. Bear & Son section is found on the right.

Followed by the Buck and Victorinox MT drawer along with another keychain MT drawer next to it.

Next is the locking pliers drawer mixed in with some ID Works tools. On the right is the SOG drawer with a few other mixed MTs.

Next are the Leatherman drawers.

Followed up by a mixed semi deep storage drawer containing some more MTs and miscellaneous items.

Starting from the top of the bottom cabinet…
Here you see an overflow drawer on the left containing my ever so meager knife collection. On the left, the Wenger Snife collection along with some other overflow items.

Next down are two more drawers. On the left is my utility knife collection. On the right, some of the Victorinox knives.

Next is the main Wenger drawer.

Followed by two Victorinox drawers.

Going one level down, a storage drawer.

I was forced to clean out a drawer in the lower cabinet for the Gerber collection. As you can see, I was forced to start layering with some of the larger packaging.

Next, another storage drawer. This one contains mostly Victorinox kits, SAK literature, and covering it all, a hardware store change mate.

Last but not least, the storage drawer for all the special boxed Victorinox/Wenger collector/different/interesting stuff.

Well that is a quick and dirty tour of the collection at my place. What does yours look like?

I can't take any pics at the moment as the Irish Sea is between me and my toolbox :(

Although, in terms of numbers, my collection is actually getting smaller and has been for a while now. Less knives and SAKs, and even less Leatherman tools!

I'm letting duplicates go here and there to fund the getting of oddities and variants I don't have. It's becoming a much more focussed collection :)
I used to come here a lot.

I will post a few pictures of my own collection at the end of the week, once a few more items have come in.  :)

Chako,

Quick question.  What material do you use on the bottom of the drawers?  I recently purchased a small Craftsman 3 drawer tool chest to house my very small collection. My drawers do not have any "mats" on them, so my MT's and SAK's sort of slide around when I open and close the drawers.  Thanks in advance.

The cabinet and chest came with the foam underlay. You can however, buy this material in a roll and cut it to size. Most hardware stores will carry it for lining tool boxes.

I use photobucket.

Nice collection Pacu.  :salute:

I might see if I can find me one of those actually :)

I have run out of room in my toolbox for stuff, but I recently discovered that using this clever foam that Hedge Kid gave me allows you to store tools standing on the thin edge, so drawers that were previously full can look like this:

Micra, Squirt and Juice drawer:

PST Drawer:

Now I have loads more room for more PSTs :D

Cool huh?  :multi:

I used to come here a lot.

That is a neat idea Yud.

DaveK, storing them that way sure gives them maximum protection.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't too sure that it would be a good idea, but having realised that by storing the tools on their edges they take up half the space - I think its great. And as you say the protection is a bonus.

Unfortunately, the foam only fits in the bottom drawer of each cabinet as they are deeper than the others, so this is probably as far as I can go with it, but most of the tools in the other drawes are bigger and less uniformly shaped, so it may not have been viable to do more anyway.

I just know I've got room for another 25 PSTs now :D

The tidying is going well though:

Here's the "Current Leatherman Drawer":

And the "SOG, Vic and Misc Drawer":

i feel so unoworthy...
to be perfectly honest i had never really considered multi-tools as collectible items. the ones i have all get heavily used, as they are generally edc

i have a callous on my fringer from overusing the genus. within 3 days of having it, my finger had been shredded by it. well mostly by the fact that i was waering really crappy gloves. but the genus was partly to blame. i love that tool... ill spend the day with it tommorow.

i collect them...but i put em in edc rotation depending on what i'm doing. Wave gets the most use for work but i'll pocket my pst, flair, squirt just heading out. Collections gotta earn their stay just like a dog.

yea i can see what you mean. i just edc the charge alx, juice s2, and soon the k503 (cant wait to ditch the current edc folder though i will proably wind up carrying that too). and the funny thing is that on any given day i will at some point be using all 3 of them simultanously.
i have tried out other brand multi-tools but they just left me feeling unsatisfied. i have to say that there is definetly something very comforting about the leatherman mts that the others dont have. maybe its just a personal thing?
