Europeans have been coming to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia for over 1,000 years,
If America was discovered by Columbus, why did old Chris choose to name the New World after Amerigo Vespucci? Can you imagine if Columbus had used Amerigo's last name? North Vespuccia and South Vespuccia, and the United States of Vespucci? Would you be proud to call yourself a Vespuccian? Or is it a case of a rose with another name?Of course Amerigo was retracing Viking routes when he "discovered" the New World too, just like Leif Ericson followed the route of Bjarni Herjolfsson, who discovered the New World that he called Vinland after getting lost in a storm. There are old Norse settlements all over Newfoundland (Vinland) that date back to about 1,000 AD.That's about the extent of my intellectual abilities for today- I think I need a nap....Def
I was just reading about this story, so cool! I hope they (gov) don't rob him blind and give him his far share.I luv metal detecting but haven't done it in awhile (broken detector) but one day I hope to get back into it.like you said it's so relaxing and good exercise and you can find some cool things, even if they are not worthanything, it's still interesting

The History channel had a documentary entitled "Who Really Discovered America," which is definitely worth the 90 minutes to watch.

That's pretty much obvious- if modern humans evolved in Africa, as most anthropologists agree is most likely, then the Native Americans had to have come across long before the Europeans managed it. But, in defense of the Europeans, they didn't have the benefit of a land bridge to walk across. Def
