Besides, I don't think too many hobbits broke six feet, did they? I mean there was Bullroarer who was large enough to ride a horse, but I think he was well under the six foot mark still!

Yep! Merry and Pippin ended up being the tallest Hobbits on record at a towering 4 and a half feet, but thats what happens if you go out drinking with Ents... Hobbit is a state of mind, not a height.
