Brass liners on Executive
on: July 10, 2010, 06:25:01 AM
Is it possible that I have an Executive with brass liners? The liners look like they are a different color.

Or perhaps nickel silver?  Any chance of a picture? :)
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

As Gareth says they could be Nickel silver as they have a slight yellowish hue to them but its entirely possible for them to be brass.  74mm SAKs have been made with brass liners.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

The liners look different than the Champion next to it. A side note, the Executive is for sale.

They're nickel silver.

Thanks Neil. Does that make it any more valuable?

Doubt it.

AFAIK all 58mm and 74mm knives are made with nickel-silver liners. 84mm and 91mm get alox now after having n-s before the early 50s, and 93mm gets n-s now after being brass in the early days. Despite being heavy, n-s liners are the best IMO. I've seen lots of cracked alox liners, and even a cracked brass liner - but have yet to see a cracked n-s liner.

I've seen plenty of cracked aluminium liners as well but never any brass or NS.  NS does seem to be the best to use.  Harder to work with than the other two, at least with hand tools. Probably no great shakes to the factory though :)
