Chris and Duncs underground adventure
on: July 22, 2010, 08:40:34 PM
Just down the road from me is an old second world war gun emplacement . It consists of two buildings as seen below .....

and another to the right a couple of hundred yards away ...

Well I met up with Chris ( Magic Bus ) as stormed clouds filled the big Norfolk sky .....

We headed for the left hand building first and peered down into the rubbish filled passage below .....

So armed with our EDC items we headed into the unkown . After a bit of clambering over the obstacles we soon saw something that we really didnt want to get too near or touch  :ahhh

Once clear of the rubbish we found ourselves in a tunnel with a room off to the left and a room at the end with an exit which was blocked by soil and concrete .

We headed back up into the open and daylight and then went to look at the second building . I informed Chris that if there was an entrance to a tunnel that it was blocked up . But after looking about Chris discovered a small opening in the ground .Chris soon lowered himself into the hole and dissapeard leaving me wondereing if I would get stuck with my rotund figure . I stayed at the entrance while Chris fed back info on what he could see . His voice was getting further and further away and It soon became clear that this was a much bigger tunnel then the first one .I couldnt resist any longer and squeezed down the hole to join Chris while the thunderstorm raged above us , heres what we saw....

Due to the whole Chris found that was partly hidden it looked like no one had been down there for years and there was alot less rubbish then in the first tunnel .

I'm sure Chris will be along to share his thoughts and some of the photos he took .A really great afternoon which ended with the usual comparing EDC and torches  :D  Chris hadnt seen a Vic Dual Pro in the flesh and I got to see his knifeless Fuse .

Cool adventure, certainly looks like the second one hasn't been explored in a while. 8)  I gotta ask though, what torches were you using?  Your TK20?

Fascinating guys  :tu:

I love all those secret underground tunnels, bunkers, etc.  :D

I assume it was pitch black down there; if so that's a great advert for the Fenix TK20   :tu: :gimme:

Dunc has told the story really well and his photos are great but here's a few of mine

He's the first one in on account of he's more expendable    ;)

Man on a mission

Old switch  :)

Start of the tunnel under the second emplacement. It was a tight squeeze and my turn to go first. I asked Dunc to inform my wife if anything happened to me like spiders or worse  ::) :D

Larger room with some sort of racking remaining

Pillbox on guard

My torch was a Nitecore DI. Ah h hhh Nitecore, made for the job

While we were underground the storm broke directly overhead and we did get pretty wet returning to Dunc's car even though it was closeby. I then got a brief tour of Dunc's Coastguard station. It was a great afternoon and always a real pleasure to see Dunc, thanks mate! I want a Dual Pro now

That is just too cool!  I hope you re-covered the hole to keep others from ruining a future grand adventure!

These look like old bunk frames to me...

Also when Dunc said, "After a bit of clambering over the obstacles we soon saw something that we really didnt want to get too near or touch"

I thought he meant this

Very nice and interesting adventure, its just a shame to see the rubbish on the opening, we have similar problems on historical sites that are not guarded.

Did someone say TK20?  :D

Seriously, it looks like you had a great time down there- other than the rubbish and previous occupant.  Over here the few things like that are sealed off or registered historical sites so you really can't do any exploring like that.  Either that or you are likely to disturb some nasty raccoons or something else living down there!
