I still only have the 57, but I have my eye on a few other models.  I thought the OLD Rangers were nice, but the new ones blow them out of the water!

How do you decide which one to get?  ???  I wanted one and of the New Rangers and the Alinghi but aren't sure which one.  J-Sews posted something about that I think.  Guess I should look it up.

Rats!  Wenger makes so many nice knives and tools now that I've procured many more of those than Victorinox models.

Yeah, I guess.  Until this year I had a preference (bias?) against Wenger, but no more!  A few months ago I got a Vic Rescue Tool and OHT (the latter which I blame solely on MTO :ahhh) but Wenger has more new models and options available than Victorinox at the moment.  The only thing I currently want from Victorinox is that sweet ratchet for the Spirit and one of the older models that Felinevet had.  But with Wenger there's the New Ranger, the Alinghi, as well as the older Swissgrip and Pocketgrip (799)...

If you are blaming the OHT on us, then be glad you don't spend a lot of time in SOSAK!  I bet we are a hundred times as bad at making folks want stuff there!

I think it was here that people were saying that the OHT is a "must have."  It must be since it already has its own acronym.  Collateral damage as they say.  At least it's not too expensive.  I suppose I could blame SOSAK for getting the Rescue tool to spread the responsibility around.  But after seeing the commercial on YouTube for the Rescue tool I'm glad I have it.  I'm hoping I have the same calm expression as the guy sitting in the car if there's an actual rescue going on.  O0 :P  Knowing I have a Victorinox might help.  :)

That truly depends on whether you are the guy in the car or outside the car!

The OHT is indeed a must have, as is the Rescue tool.  If you'd like, we can start a list of other must have SAKs for you! :D

Before you groan about that one, just be glad this is a SAK and multi group and not a bunch of Microtech, Sebenza or Randall collectors!

I've been watching out for the new Wenger plier tools myself. So far the only one that seems to be available is the Alinghi. Tim (Felinevet) says he is selling them as quickly as he can list them on eBay. Good reports so far from the guys who have received them too.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I'm liking the new Wenger Rangers also...the plain one handed blade is what's going to make me eventually get one.

And I also bought an OHT because of the reviews/discussion here.  Great tool :multi:

OK, I'll bite.  What else is a "must own" from both Victorinox and Wenger?   :pok:  I have a few Vics already so maybe it won't be so many additions to the list to acquire.  On the Wenger side, I think the Alinghi and one of these New Rangers makes the cut.  I have one of the Evogrips, which I think is a good one to have, along with the small clipper.  What else?  The Swissgrip and a Pocketgrip?  I tell ya, if ya got the spare cash the Minathor (Microtechnician) is a neat knife too.

Oh, actually I have a Microtech and a Randall or two, but never got into seriously collecting those.  SAKs and multis are more fun and cheaper to collect.

Well that depends on which way you want your collection to go in...  some old standbys are:

Soldier Variants- Victorinox Soldier, Wenger Standard Issue, Victorinox DAK, Victorinox Pioneer, old red Pioneer, new red Pioneer, black Pioneer
http://www.sosakonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=126&Itemid=35

OHT Variants- OHT, black bladed OHT, SOSAK 2006 OHT, OHT w/corkscrew, plain edge OHT (modded), plain edged OHT (factory), OHT with camo scales

Tools- Sport Ratchet, Auto Tool, SwissTools (X, RS and original), Spirit (original, S and black coated S), SwissGrip, PocketGrip, Alinghi and the new ones when they become available.

Then there are the old standbys- the Executive, Classic, Huntsman, Camper, Compact, SwissChamp

And the "must haves" for the beginning collector, discontinued models- Yeoman (original three layer, plus a SwissBianco remake- bonus points for a modded one!), Scientist, Mauser, Golfer, GAK, Champion

Those are all just off the top of my head.  I'm certain we can come up with a few more after a few minutes of thought!

Surely no collection is complete without the Wenger Giant, both versions.  :pok:  Of course, one of each would run nearly $2K (assuming you catch a deal on eBay or somewhere else).  :o

Hmm...I don't actually have many of what you name, though I do have a few that you didn't.  I wouldn't mind getting a plain edge OHT, either modded or factory.  Collecting all the variants of the SwissTool gets a little dangerous (to the pocketbook) but might be kind of fun.

I have five Swisschamps--2 red, 1 black, 1 sapphire, and 1 horn handled.  Maybe that's the way to go.  Every unique handled Swisschamp.  But that gets pretty expensive too!

If you think the plain edge is cool, why not go a step farther and get a recurved OHT?

Nice!  A recurve blade with micarta scales are just what the doctor ordered.  G10 scales would be kinda nice too.

I recurved that blade in about half an hour using the diamond file on an old Wave.  Pretty easy to do and cuts like crazy.  I'm pretty fond of that one.

Maybe later I'll dig out all of my OHT variants and post some pictures if anyone is interested?

:D  Maybe that's funnier because it's late here and I've had a coupla beers.

Ya know, with a plain (or recurve edge) and a clip, I'd probably make the OHT my EDC.  It's no bulkier than my Benchmade and infinitely more useful.

Tell me about it. I have customers climbing the walls (as am I) Wenger keeps delaying the arrival in U.S. of the Ranger 73 and 75 (the 74 is European distribution only). Luckily I have all the others in stock and they are sweet.

This isn't meant as legal advice, so please don't take it that way, but I find that in most jurisdictions around the world, blade length restrictions are really only used as a method for enhancing an existing charge, or giving the officer an excuse to stop you on suspicion for something else.  If you aren't of any interest to the police (ie, covered in blood and waving the knife in the air screaming "HAIL SATAN") then you are probably somewhat safe from persecution.  If anyone does ask, laugh at them and show them the can opener, bottle opener and then say if you really wanted to hurt someone you'd use the saw rather than the blade since it would hurt much more.  Then make a joke about how lame society is getting when folks are terrified by simple things like Swiss Army Knives.  I like to finish with a little jab like "Guess the terrorists really have won."

If you do it right they will soon start telling their friends how cool having a SAK is, and pretending they were never concerned in the first place!

That is very true that Def.

I have to say, I have never been pulled up by the police for anything so the chances of a knife being found on me is very slim.

However, sods law being sods law, the first time I ever did carry one I would be pulled up and caught.  At least if I stick below the 4" blade length I am semi legal (they aren't meant to lock either).  The UK is just no fun!!  :(

Very true, but then as a card carrying member of SOSAK it is your duty to have a SAK with you to protect mankind from unopened wine bottles.

It's in the Oathe:
