just got this one given to me yesterday from a guy.at work. It's an older Wenger Handyman. It's in really good shape except the bottle opener, can opener, and awl don't have much snap. They are all on the same layer, anyway to fix this?

Yeah I like it. I know its at least 14 years old and I don't think its even been sharpened. Still super Sharp. Any ideas how to tighen up the openers?

Wenger scales are a bit different than Vic scales, but they can be safely removed if you have patience.   Once you have the scales off, you can take either a flat end punch or a very flat hammer and lightly tap the rivets to peen them a bit tighter.  Take care not to deform the bushings that surround the head of the rivets, if you do that you will never get the scales back on.  If you aren't comfortable with doing it, you can send the knife to me and I will do it for you, free of charge.  I'm sure there are many other members here who would do the same.

Ok. I'm willing to.give it a shot. I'm good at fixing things. How do the scales differ from a vic?  Any special technique? Thanks.

This one is not too common.  I don't think I have seen any 58mm with exposed rivets in white before.  I'm not sure what the material is for the scales.  Looks like a type of imitation perl, but not the same as what was used later.  It looks more like a white horn or some other natural material.  Any ideas?  The knife could have been a engagement or wedding gift, the blades are etched with a name on each.

I think you'll find that the liner is cracked/broken at the middle pin, I have a couple of them with the same problem and on all of them the liner is cracked at the middle pin, the only other explanation is that the middle pin is bent but that's more unlikely.

If there does not appear to be a crack in the liner as stated above, then a good washing in water and move the tools back and forth to free up any gunk build up might do the trick.

Very nice. I have an older model the 'Champion' with the SOS pouch, a bit too big for the pocket, but feels right on a belt, has travelled with me for years. :salute:

Wife showed me my recent E-bay purchases via SKYPE tonight:

Swiss Champ with olive SOS kit, dates from about 1989-1990 time frame.   That and a Woodsman I got earlier this year are going to Jazzbass for repair (replace broken file on S/C, straighten corkscrew on Woodsman).  Eventually, I will either replace all the content of the SOS kit with new SOS kit stuff, or cannibalize a 1989 SOS kit I have from Christmas 1989 that has basicly fallen apart (the side pouches leather has fallen apart...I like the newer SOS kit better that uses Velcro to hold the side pouches down).

Motorist.  She could barely open it.   I will clean and oil it when I get home.  Also, the hideous Econoline scales will come off, and be replaced with brand new red plus scales.

Troubleshooter.  Mint condition.  Seller replaced the Marlboro scales with brand new black scales.  Could this be a new EDC for me, or a gift for the wife?????  We shall see when I get home!!
Speaking of the Marlboro knives, lots are NIB/OS for sale on E-bay.   Troubleshooter is a GOOD combination (too bad no can key on the Phillips).  Reminds me of a Grand Prix with pliers.   They should bring back the Troubleshooter and call it Grand Prix Deluxe.  The Outdoorsman....basicly a Champion w/o file.  What a waste!!!   The other one is basicly a Spartan.

I am watching 4 other knives......while on SKYPE with the wife, I noticed the clothes basket she is putting my loot in overflowing.....LOL

An old one with the catalog number 327 ....

(Image removed from quote.)

Very Nice!  I posted a picture of a similar one at one time.  I think it was shorter and 1 layer less with different handles.  The scales on that make it look like quite an early one.  Trying to see if I can find mine to compare the numbers.

Hi,

I found this similar one, Victoria model 324, and it measures 91m.  Is your 327 also 91mm, and have a Victoria stamp on the obverse tang?

Yes. My 327 has also a Victoria stamp and is 91mm.

I asked Victorinox about the purpose of the hook. They didn't know. They even asked some retired employees, but nobody could remember the purpose of this hook.
I can imagine it was used to clean/extract dirt from mechanical or electrical machines....
Any idea?

I was under the impression that its a hoof cleaner but it can probably be used for various tasks.

At the time I posted the picture, due to the nature of the other tools on the knife and my vague memory of machinest's tools I speculated it was something a machinest used.  My second guess is that this was kind of a first Automobile or farm machinery knife and it was for something mechanical with early automobiles.  Maybe an older machinest will happen by and kill or confirm at least on of the theories.

Thanks for the additional information, I love these old models.
