Any backstory on why these were still sitting on a shelf after so many years?

This sounds like one of those "I found a classic Corvette in near mint condition under a pile of hay in an old barn" stories.

For the longest time, they were expensive. Then got cheaper because of the old sticker prices and the march of time. A few years back, I bought a few more Wengers from them. Now their stock is almost depleted. I guess they never wanted to put them on sale.

On holiday with some time and a box full of spare parts on my hands…

I put together a Spartan with some titanium scales I’d never been able to get to work. The pivots were slightly too long and I’d sheared one of the middle pivot screws previously. The solution was an external rivet and bushing with extra bushings as spacers (although a little grinding was required). Added the Qlip (which was doing nothing better anyway) to see if it works - not sure about it now I see the photo. Looks way too big.

The other is an unnamed mod - Huntsman without opener layer if you will (I wanted a 3 layer for slimness)…. All from leftover parts, including the scales that brushed up nicely.

Fun times.

That clip looks strange, unless you're a lefty.

That clip is strange - cheap knock off of the proper qlip thing. Never quite got to grips with it. One of those things you buy, try to use then eventually throw in a corner and forget about til the next frenzy of experimentation takes hold.

Does this look better? I don’t think it’ll win any beauty pageants but it does score on the “different” scale.

+1 for no clip!

Seems to me those scales would look great in black. Can titanium be painted?

A SAK with no screwdrivers  :o

Good work

I'm tempted to mod for the first time to swap corkscrew and T Phillips between two of mine but not sure... a Range with T Phillips just makes sense to me though (ie. a plierless Craftsman).

I meant strange because of the side it was on. Usually the tools will be facing backwards, when you clip a knife to your pocket. Hence the lefty comment.

Hello all,

I recently added a Swisschamp. I'd held off getting one for a while due to the size, but I'm really liking it.

Congratulations on the purchase! It is very useful.

If you really like it, then you'll want to get a second as backup.   ;)

Thanks Steve.
A backup would be great, but the budget won't permit currently.

A must-have, for sure

It is a bit big in the hand to use, but the overall size is still very small and easy to have with you for the amount of utility it offers. You can't beat having all the tools at your fingertips  :D
