Found a vintage (1957-1971, I think) Victorinox Climber on eBay for a good price (I hope), so I went ahead and bought it.

It came in today's mail and it turns out that it's not a Climber, but a Climber Small!

I'm going to give it a good cleaning, but I thought I'd post some pictures of it here first.

Great catch. Amazing how 7 mm less can be 7 times the price.  :tu:

Thanks. I've been pretty lucky with all of my eBay finds so far, but this is definitely the best of the bunch.

I got this out of curiosity, having never seen or handled one.  I saw a good price and plunked.  The first impression is that it is so thin that it is somewhat hard to work with!  It's a beautiful little thing, though I notice it has a few scratches already.  This might be in order if you are wearing something fancy and don't want any pocket bulge or some other situation where size or weight requirements might suggest thin and light.  It's also a pretty good letter knife.

Great find! I got one with the BMW logo and some signs of use, but it's still a very gentlemanly carry.

The ribbed Alox is so cool. Very simple and somehow both futuristic and retro at the same time.

Seriously? Thinner than a Bantam Alox? Wow.

Any chance someone could post a photo, or a measurement?

[NM. Found a post comparing these: 0.5mm difference.]

This knife has been sold on the bay as "Victorinox Swiss Memory Flight Alox Silver 8GB NOS" and arrived last friday. My first thought was: Can't be, the Swiss Memory (first iteration of the USB stick series) had max capacity of 2GB. So I assumed an USB slim and bid for it. My assumption was wrong: the USB slim has a width of 6,7 mm and weighs 10 grams. This fellow has a width of  10,5 mm and weighs  13,0 grams. No paperwork was included, only the sleeve.

So I checked SAKWiki and found this one: Victorinox Alox Flight Flash. (Hence the second USB variant). Here the measures are 10,36 mm and 13,22 grams. Close enough.

The USB stick was made by a renowned Korean maker and has a write protect switch and red/green status LEDs. That's described on the USB stick SAKWiki page for the second iteration.

Paperworks and original packaging would have been nice, but as the Rolling Stones already knew: "You can't always get what you want".

And the Flight versions without bladed tools are hard to get anyway. So I'm a happy camper.  :climber:
