A while ago I found this Settler at a flea market.
I've been looking for one like this for a long time, red, OC and worn enough that it doesn't have to be in a collection IMO.
I sent it to Victorinox with a kind request for a new large blade. Now it came back and I love it!
 :mail:
Thank you so much Victorinox!

Today's mail brought the vintage (late 1960s?) Wenger Highlander I won a couple of weeks ago.

It has a couple of issues, mainly with the blade, but I'm pretty well satisfied with it.

I'm going to try to get comparison photos of the older tools with their 'modern' counterparts, but that will take a little while.

The issues apparently aren't terrible; they didn't jump out at me in the photos. Great find! :hatsoff:

That’s a bit different. My favourite thing about the Wengers is the blade shape but this seems to have much nicer file pattern than the new Delmonts an and that crazy can opener/box opener looks cool.

I think you have a Passenger model.

If it has scissors it's called an Explorer.

Either way, nice find!

New Victorinox Explorer to replace the old Vic Explorer Plus (my EDC) that I recently lost :-(. I do have to say though, that the new magnifying glass is WAY better than the old in actual ease of use (very clear without distortion and easy to read with).  I added the min screwdriver and the stick pin, but do miss the pen.  Seems like the usual good Vic quality so I’m very happy with it upon first glance and initial inspection.  Also added the Key Smart clip hanger which works very good on a SAK.

I left the old Explorer in a room where I had been working.  I had used it and then set the knife right in beside the computer keyboard as I was typing (dumb thing to do).  I then got distracted and abruptly left the room and evidently missed it when gathering my stuff upon exiting.  It was back behind a lectern and not someplace that non-employees should be working.  I had hoped it would still be sitting there when I went back but it was not.  Pretty sure another employee is enjoying my nice Explorer Plus.  I left a note with my phone number asking for its return if anyone found it.  That was a couple of weeks ago.  I also called and checked a number of lost and founds to no avail.

It wasn't really clear in the first pictures that I posted, but the blade has been sharpened down a good bit.

Here's a comparison of it with the full blade on a much newer Highlander:

There's also some side to side blade play. This is one is just going to be a collection piece, so neither issue is that big of a deal.

The texture on the nail file is surprisingly soft to the touch, but it still works well.

I couldn't get a clear picture of it, but the tip of the file is beveled some to help it fit under the fingernail, which is a cool touch.

I’m new here too. Just got into Swiss Army Knives this year and bought a Huntsman for my first one. I carried it for 5 months, using it everyday, and even impressed a coworker with its use so much, and so often, that he finally just had to go buy one for himself. It was literally everyday I found a new use for it. But about the time he got his Huntsman, I started wanting one with just a little more use.

So my latest SAK is now a 91mm Ranger. I’ve had it about a week now. I use it daily at work, many times during the run of the day. I also carry it outside of work. It is an EDC knife for me, just as the Huntsman was, and I’m never found without it.

Had to get one to enter the Chuck Yeager challenge.
It’s not a SAK I could see myself acquiring for any other reason, and I can’t really think of any other challenge that could convince me to by a tool I can’t identify a need for. So I guess the stars aligned in a weird way there.
The acquisition itself was super smooth. Domestic dealer had it in stock and shipped it out double quick. Price was fair, pretty much a match with the price Victorinox is asking in their webshop. No other domestic dealer had it in stock, so nothing else to compare against.

Nice one, aicolainen! I see the dealer you're talking about, I might have to get one myself.

I got the RescueTool in the mail today. Later on I visited my mother, and she found this in an old drawer. I believe it belonged to my deceased stepfather.

It was in really rough shape, I had to use my Wave pliers to pull out the blades. I rinsed it in hot water and applied a good amount of rust repellant. I assume it is a Victorinox watch case opener. Does anybody know how old it might be? :)

Hahaha, sorry for being such an enabler :)

If you decide to order, he’s probably going to scratching his head a wee bit,  selling more executives this week than he probably does on a average year. Not exactly his core business I would think.

Web shop is old school, but the service is top notch. No worries.

Farmer, old cross, brass liners.

Unused Explorer, grey magnifier, box and papers.

I thought I had a good deal until FedEx got involved. FedEx carried these from Japan to the UK then back to Japan. Claimed to have sent an email to me to request more information for customs clearance. FedEx didn't, Fedex got my email address wrong. I've been charged via the seller for both legs. The seller claims to have never given FedEx my email address, just mobile phone number. Trying to have a fact based, reasonable discussion with either is fruitless. Difficult to contact, not interested and will do whatever they can to ignore their error and mislead. I guess my money is sunk.

Thank god for the good old postal system, one week door to door and frictionless. FedEx, never again.
