Hard to follow the Leister model 172.484, but I did finally get one of my “grail SAKs” , this is the Wenger SGT Fix-It. Once upon a time I was a clinical laboratory manager and lived for chemistry. This model was designed for gas chromotography equipment. Believe it or not the day I got this in the mail I used my thinnest dremel cutting wheel (see blurry last image) to put a tiny notch in the micro-tool handle so I can not only use the three included (file, septum hook, ferrule remover) tools, but also all of the standard Bergeron tools as well.

I haven't received it yet but I put in an order for a Forester with black handles.  I have been noticing some attention on this board for various 111mm soldier knives, such as the 2008 Soldier, German and Dutch military knives, etc. and wanted to get something in that class - three layer 111 with saw - but having an Adventurer, which is a two layer 111  with phillips on the back, I preferred to have a corkscrew.  The Forester is more or less a Soldier/Trekker with a corkscrew.  Extra bonus: the Forester is a lot less expensive than a Soldier or Trekker.  I am not sure but I think this black Forester model may have been discontinued recently because the Victorinox site does not show it.

Also on order: Evolution 10.  I have the S101 and Evo 14 and decided to get an Evo 10 before they disappear.  I notice the Tourist model seems to be disappearing very quickly now.  I've been toying with the idea of getting one but I actually prefer the nearly identical Sportsman and now the Tourist is getting scarce and expensive so I guess not.

It's nothing special, but I just got a Pioneer X yesterday and got a chance to carry it today. I actually ended up using the awl more than the blade.

It's actually making me think hard about whether I really need to hold on to my other 3-4 layer SAK's.

When I heard that the Tourist model was likely to become extinct I looked on my Amazon SAK wishlist and discovered that the item seemed to have changed into a Climber entry.  Other offers for Tourist on Amazon and elsewhere seemed pricey so I was going to give up on it.  But I took another look at my original wishlist item - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007QCO7Y/ - and it seemed to be the Tourist, though it had gotten merged with some Climbers, so I ordered it.  What the heck, if it turned out to be a Climber it would make a nice gift, right?  It was a Tourist.  Here it is with buddy Sportsman.

I've been kind of busy since I found out the Delemont 85mm was going away.  I decided I really like the 10 and 14 models and all the others I could live without so  I picked up backups of my red plastic Evo 10 and Evo 14, plus the Evowood  14 above, and an Evowood 10.  Bit of a plunge but down the road a bit this line will be a lot less easy to obtain.  The Evowoods are very nice with European walnut and the contoured scale shape shows off the grain beautifully.

I have some wax that a purveyor of log vapes supplied with his equipment to help maintain the wood (beeswax and a faint lemon scent) and I have taken to putting a thin layer of it on wooden handled Saks (though in the above pic I have not yet done this).  Depending on the particular pieces of wood it can darken the grain a bit and bring it out.

I’ve been very tempted to do the same, 14, 17 & 18 are my fave Evo’s and also really like my RangerWood 55. Finances stops me right now, particularly as I have a few pre Vic Delemont Wengers that are very similar except for the can opener. The EvoWoods will age beautifully
