Just got an old cross Pioneer (finally). Wonder if anyone can help me get a date range. It has brass liners, small v 4 line tang stamp, and machined looking (not polished) opener layer.

Looks like you can narrow it down here:  https://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Pioneer   :tu:

What a sweet OC Pioneer...I'd be scared smurfless to carry it! :like: Per the SAKWiki link that powernoodle shared, the phasing out of brass liners started in 1984. :hatsoff:

Thank you! Now that I have it in my hand I think I'll be carrying it a lot. The Pioneer is one of my favorite SAKs and there's nothing better than a classic OC red.  I wonder when the opener layer changed to the current polished look.

Got this old Ambassador in the mail today, along with an almost new Climber and Fieldmaster. This little one needs some serious TLC (I already straightened the tip of the blade), but I think I can make a nice knife out of it. I love the nickel silver cross, and I think this is my first Ambassador with this type of file. I'm going to carefully remove the scales and try to straighten them out while the knife takes a trip in the ultrasonic cleaner. If I can't salvage these scales I have some new ones, but I'm hoping to keep the old solid ones.

Yes they are aluminum tip. I'll have to take another picture from the side. Both scales are curling up on the ends. I've straightened 84mm scales like that but haven't tried 74 yet.

Hope you're able to straighten them out. Keeping the solid scales with the nickel silver cross would be ideal.

Thanks, I really hope I can save them. I gather from some of your other comments that you're a Michigander. I haven't lived there in many years but I grew up in Lansing. Waverly High grad.

I found this Executive at a local junk shop this afternoon. Both blades needed a lot of sharpening, but otherwise in good shape.

It has metal-head tweezers, fine serrations on the orange peeler, screw scissors with a single-leaf spring, and a "Victoria" tang stamp, so looks to be an oldie.

Any guesses as to how old?

Well worth the $5 I paid for it.   ;)

Older model SwissChamp and SwissTool X, both bought on a local marketplace site for a steal. The SwissChamp will be the son's 21'st birthday gift next year. Both tools have leather pouches, the SwissTool pouch is very cracked, sadly. Both got a good dose of leather care and will continue to get small doses for the next week.

Definitely from the 1960s, but hard to narrow down more than that.

Thanks! I’ve got a Champion “a” from the early ‘60s so it and this Exec are my oldest SAKs.

My wife kept on hiding the nail clippers, so I was basically forced to buy one for myself.

He did a great job.  I understand with the way other countries are why Victorinox doesn’t make many oho SAKs, but for outdoors it is just nice to have.  With the dragonfly blade, it loses some length, so there is that compromise.

Another good thing about the Spyderco blade is the actual metal it's made of, with the VG-10 steel it will out perform the Vic blade.  I love me some Victorinox, but I feel the steel they use in their blades could use some updating.

That blue   I've got to get me a blue Alox Farmer X!
