Just a side question (though I do wish I could afford one). Why would a watch need a "gas escape valve?"

Well when you dive at deep levels, helium and hydrogen is often used in a mixture with oxygen. Helium/hydrogen molecules are smaller then air molecules. Thus, they will get into the divers watch, past the weatherproofing etc. Now when that diver comes up to decompress, that extra gas inside the watch will exert pressure possibly damaging the watch. That is why you have your gas escape valve. It is to protect your expensive divers watch from imploding. :D

Yes it would be pressure that built up in the watch from the breathing mixture inside a diving bell.  Since the pressure would be higher inside the watch while decompressing, it would have more of a tendency to explode though, not implode.  The pressure can result in such things as the crystal popping off, or damaging an oring seal.

I'm fine with a watch being good for swimming.  I don't dive so a basic 3 ATM rating meets my standards  :tu:
