Do all Pioneers have the engraving plate?

The ones with the new shield I am pretty sure all have the plate.  Older shields...I don't think so.

Why don't you just post a photo of what you have? Might be easier to identify.

Looks like an old style red alox Pioneer to me. These were made as recently as the late 1990's so some pieces will be NIB or like new. I guess there is no engraving plate on the back side since there is no photo. I have yet to see any of this style Pioneer have an engraving plate, at least in my collection and from what I have seen.

Sweet, thanks SM!  SAKWiki didn't mention any variation that was without an engraving plate so I just wanted to make sure.

I call the ones with just the single cross the older shields.

I think what has happened in the past is the colored HA alox SAK's with an engraving plate, any who had them engraved found out that they chipped really bad and did not look very nice when done. The newer Alox Classics in color have these plates and they look terrible if you engrave them while the plain silver ones are OK.

I think I have never seen an old style red or silver alox knife with an engraving plate (I`m not sure about that).
But I have two new style red Pioneers, one with and one without engraving plate.

Remember the old Alox scales with the cross had the 'advertising version' with a larger panel on the top scale.  These were usually (if not always) printed with advertising rather than engraved.

Yes, exceptions to the rule are the "Norm" for Victorinox as most of us have seen.
