Wow this is a punchy film! Very sad, very moving and beautifully made :)

Viggo Mortensen was absolutely the right casting for this film, and portrayed a Dad against the odd's brilliantly :)

This is up there with Schindler's list for my must see films list, which is quite a statement seeing as I usually hate film's :)

Just watched the trailer. Very dark and disturbing. Think I will skip it.

I Do like Viggo's acting though.

But be careful, Viggo did starve himself for this role.  He may be naked, but not in his best form

Thanks for the recommendation Mike  :tu: I've just ordered the book, I'll watch the film when I've read it.

Book is excellent (if very harrowing) and well worth reading.  I'm now just psyching myself up to see the film. :)

I couldn't read the book. Tried, but the way it was written (like one massive run-on sentence) just rubbed me the wrong way. Badly. Which is a shame because the movie was simply amazing. Truly can't recommend it enough.

It is a great movie!, but the audiobook version of the book is even better and it is not that long. Watching the movie first helped me with the faces of the characters and to imagine the destroyed world, it is interesting to notice how much the movie did not cover from the book.

You can hear a small sample of the audiobook here:

Hope you enjoy it

I couldn't agree more, as I really struggled with it at first too (glad I stuck with it though) :)

No country for old men is even harder to read because of the zero punctuation ::)

Yeah - I watched it a few weeks ago on DVD.

It was OK - needed more zombies though IMO.

Yeah his writing style, well I hate it frankly. It's like something a really REALLY creative 10 year old would write. I need somebody to go back and edit in some proper punctuation, or at least some periods here and there. That way I can read all the stuff I know the movie completely left out without my brain liquifying and running out my ears.

I watched this some time ago... probably about the time the original thread about the book was out.

It's a tough dark film. I both liked it and disliked it. I disliked the message of how society was heading, not the acting.

Problem is, some days it really seems like that is indeed the way society is heading. It is a really dark film. Even the "happy" ending is depressing as Hell. That film is like Bleak on top of Dark, mixed with Melancholy, and all wrapped up in a nice tortilla shell of Grim. And a dipping sauce of Depravity. Yet somehow there is such a strong message of Love, Understanding, and Sacrifice sprinkled in there like a seasoning that manages to peak through.

Most film writers who do book/novels/period pieces admit to having a challenge one their hands when the turn a book minto a movie:"what do I take out?"

if you try to "film a book"it would BE:one-cost prohibative, two-intimidating for the writer(s),three- a boring LONG film.

Eh, they did well enough with LotR, though problems one and two were still factors. ^^;

I think it's heading that way too sadly, which is partly why I'm such a devout treehugger these days :-\

I agree!  Some of the customers I deal with at Home Depot, actually look the the first batch of cannibals in that film(the ones on the flatbed truck that look like a bunch of rejects from "DELIVERANCE" ::) )
