The ones we don't talk about.
on: September 04, 2010, 11:03:54 AM
All of us has some SAK clones (copies) stashed away somewhere,I'll show you some of mine if you show me some of your more interesting "orphans" of the SAK world.

Kauffman K55K, only one word to describe this knife "smooth" excellent knife

A MW can't find anything about this knife, comes with a leather sheath also marked MW

Richartz

An Adler Messer also great quality

EKA from Sweden

Aitor - Spain

JA Henckels - Solingen

This one is only marked Rostfrei Germany, a beauty with brass liners

Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time

Oooh, I've got a Kaufmann!

Scales are a deep red, the color didn't come through very well in this photo. It's a pretty well made knife. :) From the 1950's I am guessing?

Meanx, does yours have a backwards "K" in the K55K like mine? I wonder why they did that?

This is indeed a great idea for a thread  :tu:

As much as we all love our Vics, it's really nice to see other knives that seem to be a decent quality. Having other shaped tools and scale material is very interesting too. Brings out the modder in me :D

Not really.  A past member here did take the liberty of contancting Victorinox about it, the response was ...

It is definitively not a Victorinox  and not a Wenger product. But in the past there were different cutleries in Switzerland producing there own knives. This model is very similar to our Swiss Army standard knife and can be made by one of these cutlerers. We think it is made in Switzerland and no fake. But unfortunately we cannot tell you from which company it was made.

Best regards

Urs Wyss

So its a bit of a mystery :)

You've got quite the range kazuya  :tu:  I'd never heard of Degen either  :-[

Wayne, you know every time I see that funky opener I get the desire to go make a Klingon Homage SAK :D

Didn't see one of these posted so I thought it would be appropriate . . .

The "old" post WWII German Army Knife (GAK) issued prior to 2003 when they began issuing a variant of the One-Hand Trekker. Upward of a dozen companies made these over the years, including Victorinox, to detailed specs. Tang markings show the manufacturer and this is usually all you can go by. At some point they added a nail file to the side of the combo saw/screwdriver/bottle&can opener tool. The saw is wickedly sharp, and some used ones are missing the guard that goes over it which is easily lost. This one is made by Büscher & Hertzberg (B&H), with no clue as to when other than pre-file era. The watch is a Hamilton and the compass a Cammenga H3 lensatic. Other than the GAK, all were once part of my Battle Rattle including the map case underneath them. I carried an earlier model 5-layer Vic Woodsman, a Buck 110 Hunter and a M7 bayonet. All three were used over two decades, quite fortunately not so much the M7 (which is still, by far, not the biggest blade I have).
