A few more knives
on: September 05, 2010, 01:13:58 AM
Yeah as mentioned it's a bit dangerous to finances living around these parts.  But the package
deal was too great to pass up.  First off is a Benchmade Ambush, second a Byrd Catbyrd,
third the Kershaw Mini-Cyclone, and lastly the Flat Byrd.  These plus the three Cold Steel
Sharkie pens all for $99 at W&W.  The other pic is one of the Cold Steel Mini-Tac Beavertail
which wasn't included in the package.

Here are a few pic's.  :)

Ha, I was looking at it yesterday. How's the lock on BM?

Very smooth, and super easy to release.  Looks very much like the access but more user friendly where
it's positioned (one side only) and very easy to swing over.  Locks up tight.

What's the actual locking mechanism? Does the lever actuate a liner or a bar or something else?

It's their "Rolling Lock with InDraft."  I'll include the link to Benchmade on this one.  Scroll down
midway and it explains it a bit.  :)

It's a modification of the axis lock - it places a stop pin behind the tang of blade, wedging it in between the stop bar and pin.  The Rolling lock is only used on the Ambush and Mini-Ambush - the nice thing is that it gives a bit of a "kick" to the opening of the blade, so it takes less thumb tension (and no wrist flick) to open.

Very nice, Sean.  I was thinking of springing for the package, but only if Jay would replace with Ambush with a Mini-Ambush - the full size is just too large for me.  I did want to try the Catbyrd, though - one of the only current Byrd models to have a flat ground (rather than hollow or flat sabre) ground blade.

He's out of PE model, not a fan of CE so looks like I'll have to pass. Was planning on give it to a buddy coming back from kiwi later this year.

Looks like you got a nice deal Sean. Interesting to see a makers mark of late Edvard Brodichanski's on that Flat Byrd, guess it was inspired by the Spyder Card he designed.

Yeah the Flat Byrd is becoming a favorite.  Fits easy in pocket and does a nice job with it's
Wharncliffe style blade on daily chores.  :tu:
