So, As usual after finding the perfect E4 to complete my collection, I left the saved search running and I came upon a couple of radioshack EL/leatherman E4's And of course I bombed them with lowball offers and of course I won both.

So if anyone is interested in a less than cosmetically perfect radioshack EL/ E4, Here are the pictures. The knife has some marks on the back of the blade from sharpening, and it is dull in a couple of spots. And the tweezers is missing. I just got done talking to the seller and he is refunding me $12 to go purchase one myself. So the price to you would be the $75 i paid less $12, plus shipping. so $63 +ship which is a lot less than ebay normal price of $100-250 not quite free to a good home but certainly a good price. I can sharpen it to razor sharpness on my worksharp precision adjust if you would like. I have shipped to two MTO members outside the US (GB and down under) and I even earned being called a "mate" by the aussie so I'm fairly confident I can get it to you overseas if need be. If you want me to secure the tweezers and pay the price for that in addition to the $63 I can likely make that work as well but It will have to wait until I can get that ordered and shipped to me.

For a working tool not bad at all. Heck even for a place holder for the collector not a bad thing. I've had uglier tools till a nice one came along.

That is exactly my reaction to it. when i put in the first low bid and got that one posted above i felt good to finally have one, then i saw this one with the case, it was so much nicer and he accepted the first offer so i have no idea if i could have gone lower. $71 + tax someone really did not understand what they had. If you check the sold on ebay for a worn one with maybe something broke (file usually) 100-125, perfect like this 150-250.
so i have no idea how I got these 2 at the prices i paid.

i am honestly not as much a fan of that style of sheath as I have seen many of them shred with wear. but this must have been in someone's drawer after they got it as a present and never used it. I don't think the tweezer had ever been out of it. none of the tools have any wear. The knife is factory razor sharp. none of the screwdrivers appear to have ever driven a screw. i'm forgot to look for the date code to see how old it is. gonna go check now

tomorrow i should be getting an s4 that i want to put on my keychain. it is a bit ratty, but I wanted to drill the rivets and 3d print some scales that will match the color of the car. White petg scales. I am going to try and 3d scan it so i can incorporate the leatherman text in a different color, and I am thinking of adding my name and phone number to the other scales so if it goes missing I might get it back. The screws and pivot barrels already arrived, The s4 is coming from hawaii ($10 including shipping) but must have ridden the slow boat. just gotta drill out out the rivets in case anyone has any suggestions

Can't wait to take it apart, but need to scan it in first so I can 3d print some new scales and possibly the tweezer holder as it appears to be ready to come apart

and the scan is done. didn't turn out too badly. now onto both virtually and physically disassembling it.

Well, drilling rivets is not easy. And pounding them out can least to this.

So next cheapest S4 is on eBay is on its way.
I also managed to lose the keyring so. I'll need those 2. It also put a stop to my thought of stealing the Phillips from that worn out E4. Way way too much work.

On the plus side the 3d modeling is going ok but I'm going to have to create the tweezer holder since the one there was didn't fair well with the heat of burning off a rivet right by it.

I have broken individual tools while trying to mod them as well

can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs unfortunately

A side note, if you aren't trying to keep the rivets or the scales then it might be best to take a Dremel and grind the face of the rivet off down past the face of the scales a bit and it should make it easier to punch through

Also a small nail (possibly ground flat on the end with a point with above said Dremel) that is undersized of the hole would be better than an actual punch (what were you using BTW

)

status update, the scales and the tweezer sheath are all done for the most part. i'm investigating chamfering the edges, and recessing the lettering into the scales.
I need to find the Font leatherman uses so i can match the lettering if anyone has any idea what font they use.

yeah that led to melting the tweezer holder.

I'm using a section of 1/8" brass rod, to drive since it is not as hard as steel it shouldn't harm it but the scissors were just left unsupported as i was tappy tap tapping. and there is very little metal around the pivots. so snappy snap snap it went.

Never modded a Squirt so never had to worry about that type of plastic

The 1/8 brass rod would probably be better but I always have problems of it bending is why I suggested the nail

Also, I can't wait to see the new scales and the tool as a whole

If anyone is looking for a Squirt that is more suited to "modder fodder" here is a PS4S (it has scissors) wih torx pivots (a lot easier to pull apart and put back together again than the regular riveted versions):

ok done and installed. There is an extinction of detail in the leatherman text along with some of the other text. I kind of expected that. I need a smaller nozzle size. I am currently running a 0.4mm nozzle. the parallel lines you can see in the letter N and S4 would be thinner, and the details that would be captured in the letters would be higher.
Changing nozzles on my current extruder is a huge PIA but I have been meaning to, for the last 2 months, Install a newer extruder that makes nozzle changes a snap and for that extruder I just received a 0.25 nozzle, So perhaps this week I will get around to swapping it out.
