Red Skeletools

I just saw on the website that REI has leatherman skeletools in red. How cool is that? It said it is exclusive to them but it is not on sale like the regular ones are.

Be careful for goodness sake I don't want to see anyone get hurt. Nothing wrong with left-handers my wife is left handed. They said the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body so only left-handed people are in their right mind. That of course leaves me out.

Probably paint, I haven't heard anything else that would get red on stainless.

It's the Christmas edition skeletool. They started early to avoid the last minute rush.

Wonder if other stores get color choices too?

Now, might pounce on one if it's in Zebra Stripes or Leopard Print.

I'm sure everybody could, even you, if they are willing to pony up the dough for whatever the minimum order is.

I like! Would look great along side a SAK. Anodized would be nice but I doubt it. Hell, the finish on the CX I literally got just last night before bed already has wear all over it from fiddling/breaking it in for a few minutes, so I'm thinking the red will just be paint. Either way, I wouldn't hesitate to have one.

I would think the minimum order from leatherman would be enough to stock online and the stores but I am not sure.

I went to the REI in MArlton, NJ. Thry did not carry it. Thay did look it up, and as of this date, it can only be ordered online.

I have verified with Gail at Leatherman, that they are PAINTED red, not anodized. Bummer....I was reeeeeeally considering one.

Hi,

My sources at Leatherman have shared the following about the red coating on the REI Skeletool;

"The coating on the red REI Skeletool is actually a variation of powder coating process and is commonly used on several firearms, so it has proven performance in extreme environments"

In my career, I've evaluated several powder coatings - some were good, some not. Based on what Leatherman said, this might be one of the good ones. I hope so as this could lead to lots of new possibilities for Leatherman (and my collection).

My REI Skeletool is due here early next week. Looking forward to seeing what it is like.
